Even as freshmen, these players are already showing confidence as shot-makers and the ability to create offense in multiple ways. While their games will continue to evolve, this first edition highlights a talented group beginning to make their mark across South Carolina.

[player_tooltip player_id='2566640' first='Sheldon' last='Davis'] is first up on the list of Combo Guards and Shooting Guards in South Carolina's 2029 Class. Davis had a monster freshman year, putting up 20.2 points per game, 8.3 rebounds per game, 2.5 assists per game, and 2.1 steals per game, being named All-State, All-Region, and Region 5-4A Offensive Player of the Year. Sheldon is already one of the best guards in the state, but it could be scary how good he becomes with a major physical or developmental jump.

Another young Combo Guard who caught some eyes in his second season on varsity is Rice. Kamden was third on the team in points (11.3), second in assists (3.3), and led in steals (3.0), proving he could be a terrific all-around player until he finds his niche as a star.

If there were a Freshman All-State Team, Kellen would certainly be on it. He quickly became a crucial piece for the Runnin' Rebels, earning more and more on-ball responsibilities as the season went on. Leverett averaged 7.4 points on 47% shooting from three, so look for him to take a big step this offseason heading into a potentially huge 2026-27.

The only 2029 Guard with a claimed offer at this early stage is [player_tooltip player_id='3472536' first='Eli' last='Howard']. The offer is from D2 Anderson University, a school that had an excellent season and is on a strong run of developing guards and shooters. Howard is part of a strong young core at JL Mann, but if his freshman season is any sign of things to come, he could be one of the best scorers in his class over the next three seasons.

Speaking of bright young cores, the best one in the Lowcountry plays at Wando High School. Austin is one of their brightest pieces, and he checks in at Shooting Guard #1 in the first Prep Hoops SC 2029 Rankings. He was one of the best players at the Prep Hoops Carolinas Freshman Showcase, impressing with his perimeter shooting ability and earning him a spot high up in the initial rankings.

Making up part of one of the best young backcourts in the state, Pursley is a prolific shooter who can catch-and-shoot from range or attack closeouts and make things happen downhill. Grant is already a guy who the Trojans look to set up with designed actions, so he could be a dangerous offensive weapon down the line in Rock Hill.

Makai might not be as pure a shooter as some of the others around him in the rankings, but when it comes to mid-range scoring and finishing, he is one of the best in his class. Coming off a monster 8th Grade Year in North Carolina, McKnight followed it up at his new school with nearly 13 points a game, helping lead them on a deep playoff run.

When it comes to positional size and athleticism, Jacori is as gifted as anyone in this group. He is yet to figure out his best position, but Wright can already make impactful plays near the rim on both ends of the floor and has shown the foundation of being a skilled shot-maker.

Just outside the Top 25 is Christ Church's [player_tooltip player_id='2887707' first='Ty' last='Young']. Young was a starter in the Cavaliers' State Championship win over Fox Creek, showing just how much trust their staff has in him despite his age. Ty is a knockdown outside shooter, but will be able to do more as he gets older and more experienced.

Robinson has a similar game to Young. He earned lots of opportunities from a young age because of his ability to space the floor with outside shooting. I evaluated him for the first time last December at the Lowcountry Roundball and am excited to see him again during the AAU Season to see how much he has improved.

When it comes to production, Ryan was up there with the best freshman guards in 2025-26. He was effective on and off the ball for Bishop England, making plays with his lightning-fast speed or spotting up with 32 made threes at 43% from behind the arc. Curry may be undersized, but he will be one of the best scorers in the Charleston area when his time comes.

The Loris Lions will graduate one of the best senior classes in school history this spring, so it's on guys like O'Bryan to step up and lead the next wave of talent. He is already one of the best shooters in his age group, but as he develops and learns how to play with the ball in his hands, he could rise up the rankings even more.

This Freshman Combo Guard didn't get a ton of minutes for the Tigers this season, but he frequently caught my attention with Palmetto Pride last spring and showed some flashes in June with his high school team. Brockington loves to create paint touches where he can score himself or find teammates, which should translate to him becoming a strong playmaker down the line.

Caiden impressed from day one with the Patriots. I caught him in his high-school debut at the EPIC Hoops Turkey Tip Off, and he was one of the best players in the event regardless of class. JL Mann has one of the best young cores in the state, and the physical progression of Williams could determine just how far they go in the future.

I have yet to see Cash in person, but he has some of the more impressive film that I have seen. He had a ton of usage on JV at Bluffton High School, which could help him develop into a more well-rounded player as he gets older. Look for him to be a knockdown shooter or flashy playmaker in spots for [program_tooltip program_id='3565368' first='Twelve' last='Time'] this spring.

One of the most efficient freshman shooters in the state in 2025-26 was Erickson. He made 22 of his 36 attempts from three, which grades out to over 60% from range.
