Though still freshmen, this group has already shown promising feel, playmaking ability, and leadership with the ball in their hands. It's the first step in a long journey, but these guards are beginning to establish themselves as names to know across the state.

PG1 in South Carolina's Freshman Class is [player_tooltip player_id='2970405' first='R'Javion' last='Booker']. Booker combined consistent production and high-level flashes from day one this season, averaging 9.8 points per game and 2.0 assists per game on 58% shooting from the field for Legacy Early College. R'Javion has a knack for controlling the game with the ball in his hands and never feels sped up or rushed on the offensive end of the floor - something that is very rare for young Lead Guards.

Kai is arguably the best shooter of this group. He combines high-volume shot-making with an excellent feel for playmaking. Lowery also leads like a true Point Guard should - with both his play and his voice. When you watch him play against other freshmen, Kai is clearly one of the best on the floor. However, when you watch him against older and more experienced players, he looks just as comfortable running an offense. Look out for him to have a big Spring with [program_tooltip program_id='3565368' first='Twelve' last='Time'].

Checking in right behind his region-mate, Lowery, is Cureton. From both a team standpoint and an individual standpoint, AJ had as productive a season as you can hope for from a freshman. His 12.7 points per game, 3.2 assists per game, and 1.9 steals per game helped Nation Ford win Region 3-5A and advance to the Elite 8 of 5A Division 2. Cureton is as creative as they come on the offensive end, both as a creator and a finisher, which help him account for a lack of size.

Greene is another player in this list who is already experienced running the offense for his High School. The Knights quietly had an excellent season in Class 3A, with their freshman PG being a huge reason why. So far, Deux is one of the more impactful guards on the defensive end of the floor, but he is also more than capable of facilitating in the pick-and-roll, finishing around the trees, or pulling up off the dribble.

[player_tooltip player_id='3041765' first='Desmond' last='Grant'] might not have had the minutes that some of the other 2029s had, but he was behind some of the best guards in school history and learned plenty in the Redhawks State-Championship winning season. Desmond is a knockdown perimeter shooter and makes good decisions when on the ball. He's still learning how to play the point, but he's in great hands and has all the room for growth in the world.

The highest-ranked Point Guard who wasn't in the preseason watch list is Caden. He burst onto the scene down on the coast, leading the Chiefs at 11.3 points per game. He still has some room for growth in efficiency numbers, but Bass was thrown into the fire in his freshman season, and he'll be better for it down the line.

Despite not having glaring numbers, Kass had a defined role for the 3A State Champions this year. He was often one of the first they turned to off the bench, because he could check in and provide energy on and off the ball. I think he has a chance to be the Point Guard of the future for the Cavaliers, but Williams is also an excellent baseball player.

One of the best freshman in SCISA this season was [player_tooltip player_id='3240752' first='Leiland' last='Fripp']. He chipped in with over 6 points a game for the Golden Warriors, helping them put together a successful season. Fripp is up there with the best of them in his class when it comes to mid-range shooting, as he prolific getting to his spots and elevating near the free-throw line.

Lugoff-Elgin was one of the 5A teams that well-outperformed expectations in 2025-26, and this freshman guard was a crucial reason why. Malik showed some impressive flashes as a shifty playmaker and knockdown shooter, so he's one I'm excited to get more eyes on and see progress over the years.

The second Legacy Early College Lion on this list is Garvin. Shuford saw his role steadily increase over the course of his first year. He showed signs of being a strong three-point shooter, including a three made three game and a four made three game. However, there were also good things to see from Garvin as playmaker, which could mean he has a more developed all-around game as he gets older.

Xavier is a lefty Point Guard who I was high on going back to last summer with Newberry High School and [program_tooltip program_id='2078753' first='Upward' last='Stars Columbia'] 14U. He consistently impressed with his two-way playmaking, creating good looks for himself and others while also preventing them on the other end. The Bulldogs had a talented class of seniors depart this season, but Harding should have them excited for what is in store for the future.

Jackson didn't have a ton of usage as a Point Guard this year for the Mavericks, but he did get plenty of minutes to show what he is capable of throughout the year. Jordan made his presence felt with some spot-up shooting and scrappy defensive play when I saw him live, which backs up his highlights and numbers from the 2025-26 season.

Rounding out the Point Guards in the first Prep Hoops South Carolina Class of 2029 Rankings is [player_tooltip player_id='3450635' first='Sebastian' last='Torres']. Torres was an eye-catcher in one of my weekly film room reviews, so even though I haven't seen him live, he makes the list. Sebastian is another lefty who excels at creating off the dribble and making plays from the paint despite his size.
