Area Rankings: Top 10 2027 Prospects in the Des Moines Metro

King is one of the most versatile scoring threats in the 2027 class, a sharpshooter who can knock down shots from anywhere on the floor off the catch. He does a great job using the threat of his shot to open up the rest of his offensive game, creating shots off the dribble and getting to the bucket or the free-throw line at will. He's an active defender, strong rebounder, and a skilled playmaker who can create looks for his teammates. He averaged 17.3 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game on 45-40-72 shooting splits and is starting to garner some real mid-major interest.     Heitland is one of the top quarterback prospects in the Midwest in the 2027 class, so his future is probably on the gridiron, but should he choose to pursue basketball he has a future there as well. He's a high-level shooter who buried 48.6% of his 3-point attempts as a sophomore, and he'll step into a bigger role following the graduations of the Wolves' top two scorers from last year's team. He has picturesque form off the catch and moves well without the ball in his hands. He's a good ball-handler and playmaker who makes great decisions with the ball in his hands as well, posting a 4.56 assist-to-turnover ratio last season.     A versatile three-level scorer, Abbott had a nice sophomore year at Ankeny Centennial, averaging 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on just under 40% shooting. He has transferred to play his junior year at Ballard, where he'll give the Bombers a versatile scorer who can play with or without the ball in his hands. With his size he's able to shoot and see over the defense, and he has a really good feel for the game.     Campbell is one of the best isolation scorers in the state, a gifted ball-handler with great footwork and the ability to shoot it from the mid-range off the bounce. He does a great job playing with pace, changing speeds and directions with the dribble, and he's a really good scorer from 15-feet and in. He averaged 12.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.2 steals per game on 44% shooting as a sophomore.     Miller is an athletic, bouncy combo forward who finishes really well through contact around the rim, controls the glass on both ends of the floor, and can play in a variety of different defensive coverages. He has great length that he uses to impact the game on the defensive end, getting into passing lanes or contesting shots at the rim. He averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 2.1 steals per game on 61.4% shooting as a sophomore.     Jones didn't get a ton of varsity run last season for the Dragons, but he's a skilled ball-handler and shot creator who figures to step into a bigger role as a junior. He sees the floor well and is a willing, creative passer. He's a good on-ball defender who moves his feet well and has quick hands and feet.     A lefty sharpshooter who is about to step into a primary scoring role for the Tigers, Jorgensen averaged 3.2 points on 46-42-58 shooting splits as a role player on a loaded three-time championship team. Valley lost four of their top five scorers to graduation, and it seems unlikely that [player_tooltip player_id='1765532' first='Jayden' last='McGregory'] is going to play basketball this year, meaning the top five are gone and opening the door for Jorgensen to shine. He handles it well, can shoot it off the dribble and the catch, and is an active defender.     Houser didn't play varsity ball for the Dragons last season but should step into a contributing role as a junior. He's a long, athletic wing who can score from all three levels, control the glass, and get his teammates involved. He has a good feel for the game and is a strong, physical defender.     A high IQ guard with a good feel for the game, Pelzer averaged 2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game as a sophomore for the Warriors, and had a really good spring and summer. He's a tough guard who can play downhill and get to the rim off the dribble, and he's capable of shooting it from the arc off the catch.     Cavil was the most productive member of Johnston's 2027 class last season, averaging 7.2 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.2 steals per game and shooting 41% from the 3-point line. He handles it well, can create off the dribble, and shoots it well off both the dribble and the catch. An active defender with quick hands and feet, he's a tough competitor who doesn't shy away from anyone.
