About Evan
Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
A pure scorer who can fill it up from anywhere, Abbott does a great job utilizing his size to his advantage in taking smaller defenders onto the block and either scoring or facilitating out of the post area, allowing the Bombers to invert their offensive attack. He’s also a knockdown shooter off both the dribble and the catch from distance. He averaged 18.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 2.2 steals per game on 53-37-75 shooting splits for the 3A state champs.

Another blue-collar type of perimeter player who brings a true Swiss Army knife mentality to the floor, Abbott’s game always seems to show up, and this spring he’s made a big splash early. While his perimeter shooting is obviously a strength, it’s been his slashing and attacking game that may be the most impressive part of his recent play. With positional size and strength, he’s finishing with power at the rim and uses a quick first step to create angles and find openings as a driver. He also moves well without the ball, consistently finding space with second cuts and making himself available within the offense. Evan is a heady player who already carries a next-level demeanor about himself. With recent recruiting attention picking up, the EYCL Live Period in Memphis should only add to the momentum. Coaches need to get in on him now — he looks poised to become one of the top players in the region by the end of the summer.

An aggressive, active two-way wing, Abbott looks the part physically and has the game to match. He controlled play on both ends of the floor. His defensive versatility allowed him to guard multiple positions, rotate effectively, and even protect the rim with his athleticism and timing. More impressively, he consistently defended primary ball handlers and kept them in front. On the offensive end, he showed a little bit of everything — attacking off the wing and playing off two feet, stretching the floor, and hitting the offensive glass. His do-it-all style of play has next-level impact written all over it, and he should continue to turn heads throughout the spring and summer.

A big, physical 6-5 wing who uses his frame to finish through contact at the rim, Abbott was really good in the Bombers’ semifinal win over Carroll, scoring 19 points on 6-13 shooting (3-9 3P, 4-9 FT), 3 rebounds, 4 steals, and a block. He has really started to fill out his frame, especially in the upper body, and the added strength has helped him finish at a higher level at the bucket as well as added a fearlessness to him when he’s attacking. He didn’t have his most efficient shooting night from 3, but he made several big shots from distance, and is a really good shooter when he’s shooting it off the catch and in rhythm.

A gifted scorer who can control the game on the offensive end with his ability to post up smaller defenders and either score or facilitate from that area of the floor, he allows the Bombers to invert their offense and give them different looks offensively. He has really good footwork and likes to go to the Dirk Nowitzki, one-footed fadeaway to shoot over defenders in the mid-range after feeling them out. He’s averaging 19.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game on 55-38-78 shooting splits, showing his ability to score from anywhere on the floor.
