-Can't remember a time that I saw a PG this young that had this advanced of a level of feel with the basketball in his hands. Scott is a high IQ point guard that should have a chance to start right away under newly-minted head coach Keith Urgo on I Street. Scott really had it going offensively as he earned trips to the free throw line, knocked down 3s, hit a defender with a beautiful euro step to score on the other side of the basket in transition, and did a good job of controlling pace for the Purple Eagles. He plays under control and has a good understanding of where he needs to be on the floor at all times--communicating effectively with teammates to direct traffic as the head of the snake for Gonzaga. Expect him to have a productive career in the purple and white.

-Canton is definitely a player that will rise pretty sharply in our next set of rankings and will likely continue to climb as the year progresses in new threads with Mt. Zion. Canton might be the fastest player in the area with the ball in his hands and is an incredibly explosive leaper that can really contort his body in midair to adjust appropriately to finish around the basket. He knocks down open jumpers, attacks closeouts effectively, and has a nose for the basketball at the defensive end of the floor. Canton should be one of the most consistent scorers in the area and should really boost his recruitment this season with MZN on the Grind Circuit.

-The newest member of the Commodores' recruiting class dazzled in a blowout win, scoring 24 points before checking out of the game midway through the 2H after building up a big Carroll lead. Brown showed his defensive instincts with a steal and spin move on the baseline to initiate the fastbreak before kicking ahead to a teammate, hit his defender with a double crossover into a sidestep 3, attacked a hard closeout to hit a smooth baseline pull-up, and scored on a baseline fader through contact after posting up his matchup on the BLOB. Brown was also a menace drawing fouls on the day from all 3 levels, sinking 14/16 FT attempts in the game to get himself some easy points. Love that he is being more vocal to direct traffic while running the offense and taking the time to communicate with teammates during dead ball situations.

-Things are progressing nicely for Cannady in new threads with the Warriors, liked his decision-making in the halfcourt as a PG that can score and distribute. He's making quicker reads in the PnR and doing a good job of kicking ahead to his wings and bigs in transition for easy buckets before the defense can get set. Love the consistency and lift on his jumper--even off the bounce-- because of his balance. Liked that he is starting to mix in drives to the rim as teams are beginning to close out much harder on him due to his shooting gravity.

-Hutchinson popped in a pretty decisive win for SEED over Largo, playing well both on and off the ball. Hutchinson did a great job of relocating to space well after passing the basketball to take advantage of his defender turning his head, splashing two 3s on the afternoon while passing up a few open looks to make the one-more pass to a teammate. He played with good energy defensively, pushed the ball effectively in transition, and did a good job of probing the defense with his dribble. Definitely a name to watch this season for SEED.

-Loved the defensive intensity in a matchup with his long-time AAU teammate vs Mt. Zion, applying a ton of ball pressure and forcing steals when he switched onto other matchups in ball screen scenarios. Devonish serves as a catalyst at both ends of the floor but really changed the flow of the game with his ball pressure and how quickly he can change ends after collecting a steal or long rebound. The consistency of the shot prep and follow-through on his jumper has improved rapidly as he sent a trio of threes through the net in C+S situations in the corner and on the wings. Would love to see him turn a few of his paint touches into drive and kicks to teammates in the key, but he usually does a good job of finishing around the rim or at least earning himself a trip to the line. His play this season will be integral to his team taking advantage of a down year for the WCAC to hopefully finish in the top half of the league.

-Liked what I saw from Rhodney as a connector with good size and a varied skillset coming off the bench for Ryken. He knocked down an open 3, scored on a physical drive to the rim, and rebounded the basketball well to extend possessions/close out possessions for his team. The ability to extend plays by coming up with loose balls was paramount in giving his team more cracks at scoring in the halfcourt to keep this one close. Should step into a bigger role with varsity after a productive two years at the JV level.

-Liked what I saw from Reid in spurts coming off the bench to give his team a different look. His best play came when he jumped a passing lane to come up with a steal that he then turned into a layup after a euro step in transition. Reid made a few subtle reads that allowed him to be effective in the minutes that he earned- relocating to space well before knocking down two open 3s and coming up with a few offensive rebounds in traffic that helped his team. Players that can generate points and be productive without the ball in their hands are always valuable commodities and I expect Reid to carve out a bigger role for himself this season for the Knights.
