Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
An unsigned senior point guard and a recent Second Team All-WCAC selection, Devonish has proven himself as one of the more dynamic lead guards in the state. The quick, strong, left-handed floor general is a high-level scorer who plays with toughness and confidence, setting the tone with his leadership and competitive edge. He has a strong understanding of how to control the game, balancing playmaking responsibilities with his ability to put pressure on the defense. Devonish continues to improve as a perimeter shooter, and he shows the craft and body control to score effectively over length and size in the paint, making him a well-rounded backcourt prospect still on the board.

One of the state’s top unsigned seniors, Devonish is a quick, strong, high scoring, left handed lead guard. The senior plays with toughness, provides leadership and really knows how to play. To go along with his playmaking, his perimeter shot making continues to improve in addition to his ability to score over length and size in the paint.

Devonish is a quick, strong, high scoring, left handed point guard who is having a big senior season. His strong perimeter shot was on display this summer and has continued into his senior season. The 5’9 point guard really knows how to play, can create offense of the bounce and is not only capable of scoring but can also find open teammates. College programs in search of a lead guard will likely be following his development this winter.

-Loved the defensive intensity in a matchup with his long-time AAU teammate vs Mt. Zion, applying a ton of ball pressure and forcing steals when he switched onto other matchups in ball screen scenarios. Devonish serves as a catalyst at both ends of the floor but really changed the flow of the game with his ball pressure and how quickly he can change ends after collecting a steal or long rebound. The consistency of the shot prep and follow-through on his jumper has improved rapidly as he sent a trio of threes through the net in C+S situations in the corner and on the wings. Would love to see him turn a few of his paint touches into drive and kicks to teammates in the key, but he usually does a good job of finishing around the rim or at least earning himself a trip to the line. His play this season will be integral to his team taking advantage of a down year for the WCAC to hopefully finish in the top half of the league.

25p 6a 3r 3s (8/16 FG, 8/8 FT)
-Impactful performance for the rising floor general in a good win over Landon to close out the first live period. Devonish’s play down the stretch was crucial to his team’s success– going a perfect 8/8 from the charity stripe, sticking a pull-up elbow jumper off a screen to tie the game up just under 2 minutes and a beautiful dime off a center drive to his big to put Ireton up 3 with a minute left. Devonish’s aggressive POA defense, play-making and scoring ability will make him one of the most crucial players that will heavily impact his team’s success as the season unfolds

Devonish is a speed merchant who thrives getting paint touches when getting downhill. He has a quick first step which allows him to blow by defenders. He can turn defense to offense. He has a nose to make a play on either end of the floor. Devonish has acrobatic touch around the rim. He puts himself in good spots on the floor to rebound. He shows flashes of scoring from behind the arc.

26p 2a 1r 1s vs Clinton Grace
-Best shooting performance from the perimeter that I’ve seen from Devonish as he went 5/7 and hit his last four threes to seal a nice win over Clinton Grace. Devonish got it going early by lifting off a pindown screen to known down a C+S elbow jumper through the contact and sealing the 3-point play with a made FT. His speed pushed the tempo for the Cardinals on several occasions with Devonish collecting several hockey assist by throwing ahead to a teammate to allow them to take advantage of 2 on 1 or 3 on 2 fastbreak possessions. His floater in transition and a wing 3 late in the game helped seal the win for an Ireton team that also won this matchup during the summer.

Silas didn’t shoot the ball extremely well in his game vs Mt. Carmel, but he did make a variety of nice plays with the ball. He ran the point guard position very efficiently, kept his turnovers down and made a handful of impressive passes to open teammates that led them to an open look from beyond the ark or under the rim. Had some nice dishes to his roller in the P&R. He is building some nice chemistry with his sharpshooter
