-Cannady battled through flu-like symptoms to step up for his team in a marquee matchup with Link Academy. The UMass Lowell commit hit a Corner C+S 3 to start a run to get the Warriors back into the game, squared up off the catch and got his matchup off balance with a jab before knocking down a three, then forced a TO by undercutting the inbounder just before they caught the pass after scoring in the paint. His shooting and moxie down the stretch played a big role in keeping the game close on a day where his team didn’t shoot well from the floor.

Despite maintaining his No. 8 rankings, Cannady has done nothing but help his case as one of the best guards in the DMV. The UMass Lowell commit continues to prove why he will be set up to be another prospect from the area who has a chance to head to Massachusetts and will be given the opportunity to thrive immediately. His ability to score it off the bounce, may defenders pay for any slight hesitation closing out on catch-and-shoots as well as his floor vision are all characteristics that have been evident with his play on The Grind Session under head coach Lafayette Dublin.

Despite the two losses, Cannady’s production and command on the ball remained consistent as he averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists over the weekend. He did a nice job of attacking closeouts of swing passes or making opposing bigs pay for playing in drop coverage on high ball screen actions as he got to his spots from 15-to-17 feet with great pace and balance. In the past, Cannady would often be sped up by pressure or the situation of a high-level game whereas now, he’s the calming presence on the ball and puts constant pressure on the defense with his shot-making ability. He also was effective getting downhill to his left hand and finishing with his right for quick scoop lay-ups before the opposing shot blockers could alter his attempt.

Yet another productive weekend for Cannady as he asserts himself as the true lead guard for head coach Lafayette Dublin. The 6-foot-2 senior put on a show to start the weekend for this event to a tune of 27 points, five rebounds and four assists in a nine-point win over The Star Alliance. Cannady’s ability to break his defender down and use his step-back to get into his long-range jumper continues to prove itself effective. He pushes the pace any chance he gets and can put pressure on the defense with his burst in getting to the rim while maintaining good vision to see the quick dump-off or strong side kick-out to a shooter.

Cannady certainly had his moments throughout Saturday as an on-ball facilitator. He and his backcourt mate,

, complement each others games in a positive way. It allows Cannady more time as the primary initiator and with that, he’s showcasing his ability to get into the paint and find teammates on paint touches. On multiple occasions as the offense broke down, Cannady took it upon himself to create space from three with his routine step-back and buried a few critical ones despite the defender getting a clean contest on the closeout. His production and efficiency will be a massive piece to the puzzle of success for the Warriors this season.

It’s likely that Cannady has his share of scoring explosions this season with Mt. Zion’s National team as he’s already indicated this fall. The 6-foot-2 lead guard is a proven bucket-getter who can get it done at all three levels, but also has the feel and instincts to quickly make the defense pay for any lack of attention in a primary read. This will be my first live viewing of Cannady with his new team, so focusing on any progressions in other areas of his game will be a priority for me. A share of MM programs are after Cannady’s services.

-Cannady has shown the ability to be a pretty electric point guard with the ball in his hands more often in new threads at Mt. Zion. He had a huge shooting performance in Philly this weekend (34p 10/18 FG 8/12 3P) that seems like a harbinger of things to come as the Warriors took care of one of Philly’s best private school teams. If he can prove that he can use that scoring gravity to create for others at a high level off the bounce– I expect his recruitment to pick up in the following months.

-Things are progressing nicely for Cannady in new threads with the Warriors, liked his decision-making in the halfcourt as a PG that can score and distribute. He’s making quicker reads in the PnR and doing a good job of kicking ahead to his wings and bigs in transition for easy buckets before the defense can get set. Love the consistency and lift on his jumper–even off the bounce– because of his balance. Liked that he is starting to mix in drives to the rim as teams are beginning to close out much harder on him due to his shooting gravity.

-Cannady seems to be turning the corner as the lead guard for a SFA team that has knocked off some big names this summer. Cannady excels on manipulating screens to free up open looks for jumpers behind the arc– and he doesn’t need much space to get off a clean look. Love that he’s mixing in more baseline drives to get easy layups or earn trips to the lines in lieu of shooting more corner 3s.

was big time for St. Frances today. St. Frances picked up two great wins, one of which was a close game against PG Christian that went down to the wire. Jasiah did a great job all day, showing great three-level scoring. He got to the rim and finished through contact, and he showed off his great shooting ability. He got to his spots in the mid-range and hit a few shots from there as well. He averaged 16.5 for St. Frances on the day.
