Expert Analysis
Eric Wallace | Prep Hoops Scout
Iyer is a smart lead guard who plays with poise and control. He has a good feel for the game and does a good job getting into the paint off the dribble. He finishes effectively off two feet over size and length in the lane and is a capable perimeter shooter when left open, giving him a balanced offensive skill set.

Iyer is a skilled junior guard and creative finisher who excels at navigating the paint and scoring in traffic. He handles the ball well, plays with control, and consistently makes smart decisions as a primary option. A solid perimeter shooter, he can stretch the floor and keep defenses honest, while his feel for the game allows him to balance scoring and playmaking. A high academic prospect, Iyer brings both production and intangibles to the table and will look to continue building momentum this spring with Team Museum.

Iyer provided a bench punch for Bethel with 7 points against The Star Alliance and 13 points against Minnesota Prep. In the victory over Minnesota Prep, Iyer knocked down a triple and converted a couple of impressive scores: a transition layup finish through the defender where he sought out the contact after catching a slick pass from Toatley and a sharp curl into the lane for a score. Iyer appears primed for a senior leap next season.

Comes off the bench. Solid handle. Plays steady on ball defense. Let’s the game come to him. Unassuming guard that just knows how to play the game the right way. Always under control when getting downhill. It didn’t take long to recognize all the ways he sets the tone as a leader. Iyer is a smart, polished guard with ball skills, scoring ability, and defensive prowess to shine on both ends of the floor. He touches the paint and scores the ball from all levels with relative ease. Iyer is assertive enough to take advantage of available scoring chances but is a very willing passer who sees the floor well when driving. Gets everyone involved in the action. His upside/potential is huge.” Iyer proved to be an asset for Bethal Academy and will be a player to monitor in the coming years.

-Iyer looked good in limited minutes in new threads with Bethel. The junior guard used a tighter handle to break down his matchup off the bounce or glide through fullcourt defensive schemes. He started off the game hot, checking into the game midway through the 1H to immediately snag a steal then throw a beautifully-timed pocket pass to a streaking teammate in transition for the And-1 lay. He followed that up with another steal and a layup, then closed off the hot streak with a pump fake and duck under into the 1-dribble pull-up midrange jumper that hit nothing but net. But the most drastic development in his toolbox that I saw was the dramatic lateral quickness improvement as he did a great job defensively by riding his matchup over screens, denying the ball, and staying down on pump fakes.

Dhruv is starting to see some rotational minutes with Carroll this summer and taking full advantage. He has taken the AAU stage by storm with VA Playmakers. It’s been hard to contain Dhruv with the ball in his hands, he can make plays at a high level when operating the 1. Zips to the basket with a quick change in speed, or patiently seeks out an opening by keeping his head up and dribble alive. Makes some nice plays in the pick-and-roll and reads the defense well. Iyer is at his best when attacking the openings in the defense and finding places to take advantage. His defense and decision-making will play a big part in how much he is involved in the rotation alongside Ant Brown and Bam at the guard spots.

was on one early for Bethel. Dhruv has been making some noise this spring, and I loved what I saw from him today. Dhruv is a natural scorer at all three levels. Dhruv does an amazing job using head and ball fakes to get defenders in the air. He has a great handle and uses it to create space to get jump shots off. Dhruv can knock down shots off the catch at a high clip, and he always does a good job playing with great poise. He had 26 points in another Bethel Academy win.

-The skill progression has come along nicely and he is thriving in a bigger role with the VA Playmakers this summer as a skilled CG prospect that can do a little bit of everything for his team. Iyer can shoot the cover off the ball, has really taken strides to improve his handle to navigate tighter gaps in the defense, and has gotten both faster and stronger. Expect him to take a nice jump this summer and earn consistent minutes within the Carroll rotation as a guard that can play both on or off the ball.

A cold-blooded scorer. Smooth & effortless with the ball in his hands. Great touch. Showed the ability to get his team into their half-court sets when it was time to slow the game down. Impress with his ability to stroke the jumper off the bounce or catch. In the gym range and good shot consistency are two assets he brings to the court. Played for Virginia Playmakers at the event.
