On Wednesday, September 24th, I attended Dexter Southfield's open gym at their campus in Brookline, Massachusetts. Though both [player_tooltip player_id='1671307' first='Alex' last='Dudley'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2553690' first='Malik' last='Adamson'] -- two key cogs for DS -- were sidelined, I got a chance to see some other guys who will make an impact this season.

Here are the players who stood out.

Afolabi will be Dexter's best player and leading scorer this season, if I had to guess. The 6-foot-3 guard is ridiculously athletic at the rim and threw down numerous thunderous dunks last night. He has a nice handle and gets to the rim with ease, and then he elevates at the hoop with the best of them. I also saw some improved vision and passing instincts, though I think he could lean into facilitating a bit more. Regardless, the Assumption commit will have the ball a ton this season and will likely develop a lot as a result. Bright future ahead.

Schuller is a skilled and smart point guard who will run the show for Dexter this season. He does a great job puncturing the paint and spraying out to shooters, and he's always looking to get his teammates involved in transition with the kick ahead pass. He also strokes it from three and has excellent range. The 5-foot-11 senior won't wow you with crazy quickness, but he's under control and extremely patient at all times and consistently makes the right decision. High D3 schools might not be in on him because of size, but he can probably play at that level.

Though White might not earn a starting spot as a result of being behind senior starter Schuller, the sophomore guard could be a significant piece of Dexter's bench and an even bigger part of their future. The 6-foot southpaw is incredibly heady for his age and has really excellent passing vision; he doesn't turn the ball over and always seems controlled in the lane when making decision. He also strokes it from three and showcased some much improved strength and athleticism at the hoop. White is going to be a really great player in a few years and will probably have a significant role even this season.

Kilroy is an incoming transfer from Westwood High School, and I imagine he'll either start or be one of the first couple guys off the bench this season. The 6-foot-5 sophomore is a really good leaper and has great instincts in terms of judging the ball off the rim; this makes him a really effective rebounder on both ends. The lefty needs to improve his right hand finishing, but he shows flashes of having nice touch in the lane, and I liked the way his three-point shot looked, even though he barely took any yesterday. Bright future ahead for Kilroy, who will be a big part of Dexter's future.

Short is a fascinating prospect. The 6-foot-5 forward is an above the rim athlete and has excellent strength, quickness and explosiveness for his size and age. His shot looks a bit wonky, but he's able to hit it occasionally off the bounce, and he's learning how to make decisions at a faster level. He's going to really develop this season with Dexter, where he'll probably get some minutes off the bench and will be able to go against bigger and stronger players consistently in practice. Keep an eye on Short moving forward -- he could be a scholarship prospect in a couple years.

Weeresinghe and Schuller are competing for best shooter on Dexter Southfield, and both of them have a case. Weeresinghe just transferred in from Newton South and looks to be a burgeoning wing with lots of interesting skills. Aside from stroking it, the 6-foot-3 wing is a phenomenal off ball cutter and screener who really understands how to move and play as part of a system. He's going to be a really nice role player for Dexter, and he also seems to be quickly developing as an athlete -- he almost has a put back dunk yesterday that I didn't know he had in his bag.
