Expert Analysis

Afolabi will be Dexter’s best player and leading scorer this season, if I had to guess. The 6-foot-3 guard is ridiculously athletic at the rim and threw down numerous thunderous dunks last night. He has a nice handle and gets to the rim with ease, and then he elevates at the hoop with the best of them. I also saw some improved vision and passing instincts, though I think he could lean into facilitating a bit more. Regardless, the Assumption commit will have the ball a ton this season and will likely develop a lot as a result. Bright future ahead.

Afolabi, a dynamic guard out of the Dexter Southfield School, stood out with his ability to make plays in transition using his athleticism and strength. A summer stock riser, he did a nice job of letting the game come to him, waiting to pick his spots as a scorer. Late in the scrimmage, he showed the athletic burst he’s become known for, breaking down defenders in isolation situations and finishing at the rim and with a mid-range jumper on back to back possessions. His joy, competitiveness, and willingness to use his voice as a teammate also stood out.

Afolabi, an athletic lead guard out of Dexter Southfield, has elevated his game this spring while running with the Middlesex Magic on the HGSL circuit. A high level athlete with a college ready body, he uses his physical gifts to his advantage on the defensive end of the floor, where he’s proven to be a lockdown perimeter stopper. He’s explosive in the open floor, has some wiggle off the bounce, and knows how to finish through or over size at the rim. He should continue to attract scholarship level attention this summer.

Afolabi is a very impressive athlete. The 6-foot-3 combo guard has some of the longest arms I’ve seen and he puts them to good use. Defensively, he’s active with his hands in the passing lanes and can guard multiple positions as a result of his physical tools. Offensively, he gets to the rim at ease and can finish using a variety of crafty angles. He’s also a solid shooter who can knock down shots from both the mid range and three, and he’ll find open shooters on the perimeter when he needs to. Big time player with scholarship potential.

Afolabi is an athletic 2-way guard who finds ways to impact all facets of the game with his play. He does a really good job using his angles to navigate to different spots in transition on the attack. His length allows him to cover ground at a fast pace. Afolabi has the ability to find scoring chances in a blink of an eye. He is a prospect who I think is about to have his coming out party as a player and get a lot more attention from college coaches in the next few months.

Previous Rank: 59 (+10) Afolabi, who falls just behind Bernard in terms of making the biggest jump in this update, rose 10 spots from 59 to 49. Already a big time scorer on the prep scene at Dexter Southfield, Afolabi shines as a creator with the ball in his hands and is at his best when he gets downhill to put pressure on the rim. He’s a big time athlete that can finish high above the rim, but he’s also shown some signs of being a creative finisher that can finish with craftiness as well as power. He does a great job of utilizing his length to finish in the paint, taking full advantage of his physical gifts. Defensively, he’s long and athletic, and when he stays in a stance, can be the type of defender that shuts down the other team’s best perimeter scorer.
