Class 2A: Stars to Watch (Part 1)

Badding is a big-time shooter off both the dribble and the catch who has the ability to torch teams from distance in the blink of an eye. He has unlimited range, a quick, picturesque release, and good vision as a passer. He averaged 12.3 points and knocked down 62 3-pointers for the very balanced Knights as a junior.     A bouncy, physical 6-6 big man, Clair was a fantastic addition to the Knights last season, giving them some needed size, rim protection, and toughness in the paint. His game isn't all interior though, as he can also step out and space the floor with a silky stroke from the 3-point line. He averaged 15.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game on 66% shooting as a junior.     With his combination of size, length, and athleticism, Hoben is a problem for opposing teams. He's a long, bouncy 6-5/6-6 wing who can do a little bit of everything on both ends of the floor, averaging 17.3 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.2 blocks per game as a junior. Following the graduation of Emiliano Barrantes, he'll have even more opportunity to put up big numbers in his senior year.     Scharnberg will pair with Hoben to give the Thunder arguably the best one-two punch in the state. He's a quick, skilled guard who can bury shots from the 3-point line off the dribble, create plays for his teammates, and he has a knack for jumping passing lanes and turning defense into offense. He averaged 15.6 points, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals per game last season.     A smooth all-around offensive weapon, Schauf makes everything look effortless on the offensive end of the floor. He shoots it extremely well off the catch, moves well without the ball in his hands, and has the size and length to impact the game on the defensive end as well. He'll be among the top scorers in Class 2A this season after averaging 21.2 points on 50-43-85 shooting splits last season.     Lovely is an electric guard who is among the best ball-handlers and shot creators in the state. He does a great job changing speeds and keeping his defender off balance, and his ability to shoot it off the dribble is rivaled by few in the state. He put up 19.0 points, 4.2 assists, and 2.9 steals per game as a junior for the Cardinals and will be the focal point for a Treynor team that will be among the best in the class this season.     Badding doesn't put up eye-popping numbers, but his shot creation and shot making make him one of the top players in the class. He averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.1 steals per game last season for the Knights and will step into a more prominent ball-handling role following the graduation of lead guard Carson Kanne.     Bosma is one of the top two-way guards in the state, regardless of class. He's a tough, athletic defender who does a great job moving his feet and making opposing ball-handlers really work on that end of the floor. On the offensive end, he's a skilled three-level scorer and playmaker, averaging 16.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.3 steals per game on 50-43-74 shooting splits.     Meyer was exceptional last season for the Wildcats, helping lead them to a runner-up finish. He's an explosive athlete who can stuff the stat sheet in a variety of ways, averaging 15.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game on 54-40-71 shooting splits last season. His bounce and toughness allow him to contest shots around the rim and bang against bigger players in the paint, and his lateral movement allows him to defend on the ball at a high level.     Moret came off the bench as a freshman for the state champion Wolfpack, providing them with some scoring and playmaking. As a sophomore, he has a real chance to break out. He has really good size and is a tough guard who can play downhill and get to the rim or bury shots from distance routinely. He's a high IQ, highly skilled guard who is going to be a star for Western.
