Region 1: Small School Standouts

These small schools may not draw the same spotlight as their larger counterparts, but they're home to some of the most skilled and hardworking athletes in the region. This list highlights the best of the best. With an offer from UT Martin already in hand, he's turning heads as a modern frontcourt weapon who can stretch the floor, protect the paint, and make plays in space. He's comfortable stepping out beyond the arc while still finishing effectively around the rim. On defense, his timing and instincts make him a major obstacle for opponents. One of his most impressive outings last season included a triple-double performance with 25 points, 13 boards, and 10 blocks. His strong ball control lets him explode off a jab step into a crossover, giving him space to operate. Byrd had a solid season for Mayfield last year, earning a spot on the First Region All-Tournament team. He returns after leading the Cardinals in scoring at 12.5 points per game, shooting nearly 50% from the field and hitting 31 threes at a 35.2% clip.     Grigg is a strong, physical guard with a high motor and proven production. He averaged 22.2 points, 8.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.6 steals while shooting 83% from the line. A three-level scorer with elite rebounding instincts for his position, he creates off the bounce, finishes through contact, and defends with grit. With over 2,000 career points and 900 rebounds, Grigg is a complete guard who makes winning plays and projects as a next-level impact player.     Miller is a strong, high-motor forward who made a major leap last season, averaging 10.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and shooting 60.5% from the field and 50% from three. He brings toughness, shot-blocking, and interior scoring with soft touch around the rim. With 10 double-doubles and 10 games of 5+ blocks, he consistently changes games on both ends. As he sharpens his handle and expands his range, Miller projects as a versatile, physical presence with real upside at the next level.     Mayes is a high-IQ point guard with advanced poise, vision, and leadership for his age. As an 8th grade varsity starter, he averaged around 12 points per game and led the First Region in assists, showcasing excellent court awareness and the ability to control tempo. He's a consistent shooter at over 40% from three and makes sound decisions under pressure. Mayes plays with maturity, defends with energy, and brings a team-first mindset. With his playmaking instincts, shot-making, and competitive edge, he projects as one of the top young guards in the region.     Mitchell is a long, skilled 6'7 shooting guard with a smooth scoring touch and two-way impact. He averaged 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.1 assists as a junior, earning All-4th District Tournament honors. A knockdown shooter with deep range and a confident mid-range game, Mitchell can create off the bounce and make reads as a secondary playmaker. Defensively, his length disrupts passing lanes and alters shots, with the ability to guard multiple spots on the floor. Vocal, unselfish, and driven, Mitchell brings leadership and versatility. With his size, shooting ability, and defensive presence, he's a high-upside wing poised for a breakout senior season.     Moore is a strong, physical guard/wing with a high motor and rising versatility. He averaged 14 points, 6 rebounds, and shot 34% from three while stepping into a starting role. A tough defender and aggressive rebounder, Moore impacts the game with effort and toughness. He scores at all three levels, uses pace to create off the dribble, and continues to expand his range. With his energy, defensive presence, and team-first mentality, Moore is a reliable two-way contributor built for winning basketball.
