Freshman Showcase: Steve's Top Performers

We had over 50 members of the class of 2029 come to Louisville yesterday to participate in our annual Freshman Showcase. While I was stationed on one court nearly the entire time, I did not get to see every player who came to camp. These are the top players that I was able to evaluate myself.    From the start of the 3 on 3 games until the end of the 5 on 5 contests, Bryant was the best player on the court. With great positional size and the ability to knock down shots or finish high above the rim, Ty checks a lot of boxes as a prospect at this young age. He even made some high level passes in the open court. When 2029 rankings drop, Ty is a lock for top 5 and could be pushing for the top spot.     Peter was a player I had not seen play before but he left me pretty impressed. A high level rebounder who flashed some skill around the bucket and wasn't afraid to step out and shoot a 3, Patterson looks like a very high potential player. At 6'8", he was the tallest player at camp and actually played like it. He rebounded over smaller players and finished comfortably over everyone. West Jessamine has themselves a nice player for the next four years.     Floyd is a player that I had seen film on numerous times but it was all from 2024. After seeing him in person, Rajon has the "it" factor for sure. A smooth ball handler with quick twitch, the game looks easy for Floyd. He's able to get into the paint about any time he wants to. I didn't see him shoot much from distance because he didn't really have to. He looks like a top prospect in the class, both in the long and short terms.     I had never seen Morris play before Saturday. Coach Croft from Mayfield had been singing his praises to me for a while and Gabe didn't disappoint. He plays hard and attacks the rim fearlessly. He will need to add some bulk to his frame, long term but I can see Morris being an impact player in the first region as soon as this season and almost certainly by his Sophomore year if he continues developing.     Withrow is a strong guard who can bully defenders on his way to the bucket. What I didn't expect was when, late in camp, the 6'1" guard rose up and nearly dunked all over a bigger defender. Had he gotten the dunk down, it would have been the most impressive play of the day. Matt is a player who can score in bunches when he gets hot and looks like he should be a big time varsity contributor this season for Oldham County and beyond. He and [player_tooltip player_id='2880415' first='Ty' last='Bryant'] should be a formidable duo for the next 4 seasons.
