First Team

Class 4A Player of the Year: 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1381412' first='Davis' last='Kern'] (Linn-Mar)
Stats: 22.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 3.2 blocks, 54.3 FG%, 37.0 3P%, 78.5 FT%

Kern concluded a fantastic high school career by leading the Lions to the 4A semifinals. The future South Dakota State forward is Linn-Mar's all-time leading scorer, a pretty remarkable honor considering the run of talented guards that have gone through that school over the last 25 years. He was a force on both ends of the floor throughout his four years, and saved his best for his senior year, scoring at a remarkably efficient clip, showing that he can create looks for his teammates, and dominating the game as an interior defender.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759895' first='Trevin' last='Jirak'] (Valley)
Stats: 16.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.1 blocks, 59.2 FG%, 38.6 3P%, 71.2 FT%

The recently crowned Iowa Mr. Basketball was fantastic on both ends of the floor all year for the Tigers, helping lead them to the third straight state title. His ability to invert the offense with his passing and vision as a 6-9 big man makes him an extremely valuable player, as does his IQ, switchability, and rim protection on the defensive end. He'll play his college ball at Northern Iowa.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1381415' first='Trey' last='McKowen'] (Kennedy)
Stats: 22.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.6 steals, 46.9 FG%, 37.2 3P%, 87.5 FT%

McKowen put together a great senior year for the Cougars, averaging just under 23 points on solid shooting splits, and he was also really, really good as a playmaker and defender. He led the Cougars back to the state tournament for the fourth straight year.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1381414' first='Jack' last='McCaffery'] (Iowa City West)
Stats: 21.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 blocks, 45.1 FG%, 81.7 FT%

The future Butler wing put together a good senior year for the Trojans despite seeing a number of different junk defenses thrown at him on a nightly basis. He could end up being a better college player than high school player, when he's able to get some more talented players around him.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759897' first='Kyle' last='Cason'] (Dallas Center-Grimes)
Stats: 23.6 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals, 50.1 FG%, 87.7 FT%

Cason transferred from Valley to DCG for his senior year and had a massive year for the Mustangs, leading them to the substate finals. He had some explosive scoring nights and showed his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.

Second Team

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765553' first='William' last='Gerdes'] (Cedar Falls)
Stats: 16.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.0 blocks, 65.9 FG%, 44.4 3P%, 72.7 FT%

Gerdes was the most consistent player for the team that spent the entire year at the top of the rankings, impacting the game on both ends of the floor with his size, length, and talent.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765532' first='Jayden' last='McGregory'] (Valley)
Stats: 16.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals, 50.2 FG%, 37.5 3P%

McGregory was unbelievably good at the state tournament, leading the Tigers to their third straight title with play that earned him captain honors on the all-tournament team. An athletic guard who thrives playing downhill, he has also become more consistent as a shooting threat.

2026 [player_tooltip player_id='1765524' first='Evan' last='Jacobson'] (Waukee)
Stats: 18.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.2 blocks, 44.6 FG%, 44.7 3P%

A future standout on the gridiron, Jacobson was great on the hardwood all year for the Warriors, a nightly double-double threat who could score inside and out.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1288891' first='Bode' last='Goodman'] (Waukee Northwest)
Stats: 16.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 3.2 steals, 49.7 FG%, 35.5 3P%, 75.0 FT%

Goodman transferred from Southeast Polk to Northwest and helped lead the Wolves to the state championship game. A skilled guard who can score from anywhere on the floor as well as create plays for his teammates, he had a great senior year.

2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1759902' first='Kayvion' last='Hodges'] (Muscatine)
Stats: 20.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.9 steals, 1.2 blocks, 51.7 FG%

Hodges won the 3A title at Assumption last year, then transferred back to Muscatine, where he spent his freshman and sophomore years. He helped lead the Muskies to their best season since Joe Wieskamp graduated, with his defensive versatility and explosive athleticism on full display on a nightly basis.
