At Prep Hoops Indiana we take great pride in going above and beyond in order to deliver the very best content 365 days a year. We are lucky to be here in a basketball-rich state with some of the best players, coaches, and overall competition in the country. Therefore, we try to do our part in lifting up the game by hitting the road more than anyone else. We really get to flex those muscles each fall as we spend time visiting with high school programs during their open gym schedule through September and October. In September I was able to hit 14 schools and expect to approach that number again in October. Here is one big picture thought on each program that I visited with starting with the first seven (alphabetically).

Avon

There aren't many Sectional champions in the state that bring back the amount of production that the Avon Orioles do this season. They return their top six scorers from last season and added a Division I prospect in junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1565984' first='Keriawn' last='Berry']. Pending his eligibility following his transfer from Trinity in Louisville, Berry will be a star for the Orioles alongside junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1561685' first='Jedidiah' last='Minnett'] and senior forwards [player_tooltip player_id='1539455' first='DeAndre' last='Lott-Hancock'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1539997' first='Kendrick' last='Dunmore']. Avon will be a borderline Top 10 team to begin the season in Class 4A.

Beech Grove

Beech Grove alum Dave Sanders has taken over the reigns of the Hornets program and will look to take steps in the right direction in year one. He has some intriguing talent to work with led by senior guard Tyris Reid that headlines a returning group of veterans. However, it could be freshmen [player_tooltip player_id='2538887' first='BJ' last='Mastin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2617860' first='Bishop' last='Moore'] that create the most buzz by the end of the season. These freshmen are really, really talented and look to be the future of the Beech Grove program.

Carmel

Per usual, Carmel looked like a well-oiled machine already this fall. Huntington commit [player_tooltip player_id='1296972' first='Alex' last='Couto'] will led a group that put together one of the most impressive stretches of the season last year. The Greyhounds won eight of their last 10 games which included being the only team to knock off Class 4A state champion Fishers. Look for junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='1560952' first='Evan' last='Harrell'] to continue to blossom into a star this season.

Crispus Attucks

Two-time Indianapolis City Player of the Year [player_tooltip player_id='1297019' first='Dezmon' last='Briscoe'] is back for a final ride and will create a "twin towers" look up front next to senior [player_tooltip player_id='2277732' first='Lamar' last='Jones']. In the backcourt, the Tigers feature senior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='1297004' first='Chris' last='Hurt'] who is headed to IU-South Bend along with transfers [player_tooltip player_id='1728675' first='Elexander' last='Harris'] (Arsenal Tech), [player_tooltip player_id='1297037' first='Imon' last='Cousins'] (Southport), and Julius Spann (Warren Central).

Fishers

The defending Class 4A state champions will enter the 2024-2025 season among the favorites once again. Their backcourt of sophomores [player_tooltip player_id='2140345' first='Cooper' last='Zachary'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2267046' first='Jason' last='Gardner Jr.'] is as good as anyone in the state while veterans [player_tooltip player_id='1525664' first='JonAnthony' last='Hall'] (Stanford football commit), [player_tooltip player_id='1297069' first='Justin' last='Kirby'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1525682' first='Millen' last='McCartney'] offer plenty of talent around the young playmakers. Taylor commit [player_tooltip player_id='1297097' first='Nathan' last='Baker'] and fellow senior [player_tooltip player_id='1540000' first='Logan' last='Sigler'] will headline the Tigers' front court.

Franklin Central

6'7" junior wing EJ Hazelett will miss some time due to a knee injury, but once he hits the floor the Flashes could sneak up on some people this season. Hazelett has plenty of size and length around him with 6'6" senior forwards [player_tooltip player_id='2485672' first='Darius' last='Helm'] and Elijah Thompson returning along with 6'5" sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2622080' first='Jayce' last='Brewer']. In the backcourt, Dante Edwards and Carson Back will be leaned upon to pick up some of the scoring load while Hazelett is out. Franklin Central could enter the postseason as a favorite to cut down the nets in Sectional 12.

Greenfield-Central

The story when it comes to Greenfield-Central obviously begins with Indiana Mr. Basketball front-runner [player_tooltip player_id='1296984' first='Braylon' last='Mullins']. The 6'5" shooting guard averaged 25.0 points per game while leading the Cougars to 24 consecutive victories prior to falling in the Sectional title game to New Palestine. [player_tooltip player_id='1306153' first='Michael' last='Johnson'] comes over from Southport where he was leading scorer last season and [player_tooltip player_id='2485685' first='Boston' last='Willard'] returns to give Mullins some help in the backcourt as well. Greenfield should be a preseason Top 5 team in Class 4A.
