Brandon Ramsey | Prep Hoops Scout
Mastin played an important role in Beech Grove’s backcourt as a freshman and that early experience will pay dividends for him down the road. The 5’10” point guard had his quickness and ball handling ability on full display at Sunday’s Prep Hoops Indiana Sophomore ID Camp. He consistently got into the paint, made good decisions when he got to advantageous positions, and really was the offensive catalyst for Team 3 throughout the event. Based on what we saw on Sunday it appears that Mastin is ready to take on an even bigger role in Beech Grove’s backcourt this winter as a sophomore.

Mastin stepped into a varsity role right away last season at Beech Grove High School averaging 3.6 points per game. Now, the 5’10” point guard should see an expanded role as a sophomore. He is a very talented playmaker with good ball handling skills and the ability to make tough passes from a live dribble while attacking the basket. It will be good to see him against the best of his peers at the Sophomore ID Camp.

One of a few very talented freshmen to make an instant impact at Beech Grove High School last season, Mastin stepped into a lead ball-handling role and averaged 3.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. Based on how he played at the Charlie Hughes Showcase with the Hornets he is ready to take on an expanded role as a sophomore. Mastin is quick and shifty with the ball in his hands and makes good decisions from a live dribble while attacking the basket. His ability to score or make plays for others makes him very dangerous as a penetrator. Definitely a Class of 2028 guard to follow over the next few years.

Mastin was thrown to the fire right away as a freshman at Beech Grove High School and that early experience will play dividends for him down the road. We are anxious to continue to evaluate him and see where he stacks up among the best point guards in Indianapolis. He has flashed enough playmaking talent so far to make us intrigued and we will make a point of getting eyes on him again sooner rather than later.

There are several very talented freshmen coming into the Beech Grove High School program right now and Mastin is one that could see the floor sooner rather than later. He is a very talented and creative playmaker that is fearless as an attacking lead guard. Mastin can score it from multiple spots on the floor and is a very good and willing passer.
