Rose was the catalyst for Madison Southern dictating tempo, making tough plays and also leading them in scoring. He was ultra aggressive driving the ball and initiating contact. He did a really good job playing thru contact and not letting it affect him. He was at his best getting rebounds and going in transition. Tough player who is one of the more competitive players I have seen.

Santonio Wade
This was my first time seeing Wade since Jasper Johnson’s departure to Link Academy and I was impressed to say the least. Wade looked to be a completely different player as he looked more than ready to take over the reigns and lead the Yellowjackets this season. He was aggressive looking for his shot but didn’t seem out of control. Played with great pace and getting to his spots. Showcased his ability to make shots both off the bounce and dribble. He is undoubtedly one of the more underrated guards in the state.
Mardis showed again why he needs to be considered as one of the top prospects in the 2026 class in Kentucky as he just filled up the box score. Mardis is a high volume shooter that can really score in every way possible both off the catch and dribble. He made a ton of tough shots vs North Laurel and clearly wasn’t afraid of the moment. I would have liked for a little bit better shot selection at times but it is hard to poke holes in his game. The next step he will need to take is becoming a more consistent scorer around the rim. Love his game.

Thomas More got an absolute steal in Allen. With his size, he was tasked to do everything on both ends of the floor but what I loved most about him was he did his best work doing the little things. He never seemed to get sped up and always made the right play. He was getting fouled all night but it didn’t affect him at all. I love him for the next level because Thomas More can run their offense thru him. He is more than capable shooter from 3pt range, great passer and can put the ball on the floor and beat defenders off the bounce. Excited to see how he finishes his final year at LaRue County.
Doyle was the best player on the floor vs Taylor County as he controlled the game from the tip. He got to the paint at will and did a good job finishing thru contact. Has a unique combination of size and quickness that makes him effective when he gets to the paint. He never seemed to get sped up and knocked down a few 3’s to cap off a solid night. Throughout the game he did a good job getting other players involved. Big time player that will have a huge senior year and could lead Lexington Catholic back to Rupp.
Perry had himself a quiet 28 points in a lopsided win vs Bourbon County scoring mostly all of his points off of jump shots. I have always been impressed with how he scores, as most of the shots he makes are tough and contested. He scored both off the dribble and catch and was at his best going right to shoot as it looked much more comfortable for him. Stating the obvious here, but he again proved why he is the best player in the state last night.

Boone was extremely aggressive vs Calloway County, especially attacking the basket. He was at his best in transition, getting out and leading the break. He is better in the open floor as a finisher than facilitator, but when he gets going there isn’t many people that can stop him. Was really good when he got to his right hand. He showed better shooting than I have seen in the past but still needs to be more consistent. Had 28 pts in the win.
Rondon has just continued to get better and better every time I have seen him play since preseason last year. He plays much more composed now and uses his change of pace to his advantage. I was overly impressed with his jump shot as he went 5 for 6 from. 3pt range with an acrobatic 4 point play to seal the win with 18 seconds left. Typically Rondon is at his best driving the ball and getting to the paint but when with his jumper falling like it did last night, it just adds an entire new dimension to the team. B
King was easily one of the best players I saw on day 1 as he just naturally scores the basketball at ease. He is a big time athlete with good side which allows him to be extremely affective everywhere on the floor at the high school level. He elevates extremely well, especially on rebounds. When he gets the ball he is in constant attack mode and was relentless getting to the rim. An underrated part of his game was facilitating for others. Just when you think he was about to take a tough shot he patiently found open scorers for shots or dump offs. Colleges should be all over him.
This was the second time in the past few weeks I have seen Preston play and he has jumped up on my radar quickly. He is tough as nails, is the heart beat for LCA and really never backs down from any competition. He went 10/10 vs a scrappy Frederick Douglas team and the shots he made weren’t easy. He at times got sped up which had some bad turnovers but for how the game was played and how much he had the ball in his hands there wasn’t much to complain about. Really solid player.
You can just tell Weis has a natural gift of understanding how to play basketball as he has one of the better feels I have seen at the high school level. Never got sped up, was very poised on drives to either score or make the right pass and showed great instincts defensively blocking shots and getting deflections. He is a guy at the next level you can run offense thru with his passing ability. He is an exciting player to get behind in the state and will be someone to watch at the next level as he continues to develop.
