Boone had a good year for Woodford after playing the previous three seasons at Douglass. He’s got to improve his shooting numbers to get on the floor at WKU next season but with his natural scoring ability and his athleticism, expect Melo to have a strong college career.

Boone was another player who did everything it took to help his team win in overtime. Maybe the most athletic player in Kentucky, Boone had a couple early steals that led to monster slam dunks. Able to attack the rim with force, Boone is a guy who looks to get all the way to the rim in the half-court. After starting the game slow from the perimeter, Boone knocked down three 3-pointers in the third quarter to help eliminate the biggest Ashland Blazer lead of the day. The biggest aspect of the game where Woodford County won the game was the rebounding battle. Woodford County outrebounded the Tomcats 38-18 and Boone led the way with 10 rebounds.

One of the top prospects in Kentucky’s 2025 class, Boone is a player who could have an instant impact at the college level. One of the best athletes and defenders in the Midwest, few players can turn defense to offense as quickly as Boone does. If you are late making a passing read in Boone’s direction, he’s going to steal your pass and finish with an acrobatic layup or dunk on the other end. Starting to show some progression as a 3-point shooter as well, Boone knocked down a couple deep 3-pointers. If Boone is consistently stretching the floor as a spot-up shooter, he could have a really valuable college career.

The most high profile transfer of the summer, Melo departed Frederick Douglass to finish his career at Woodford County. The WKU signee should make a major impact in the 8th region and his presence likely makes Woodford the early favorites to win the region.

The most recent commitment in the class, Melo had an interesting summer where he made the move from the 11th region and Douglass to the 8th and Woodford County. Boone is possibly the best athlete in the 26 class but he can also get hot from deep. A possible steal for the Toppers.

The newest Division I commit from Kentucky’s 2025 class, Boone stood out with his future head coach and assistant watching this weekend. A tough kid who does what it takes on both ends, Boone isn’t afraid of anybody on the court. A wing who will get after it defensively with pressure and fight for loose balls, Boone gets his team extra possessions consistently. Combine that with smart movement off the ball and a strong base, Boone can finish at the rim through rim protectors. Knocking down a corner jumper was the icing on the cake as Boone did a little bit of everything in Team Thad’s win over Alabama Fusion on Friday morning.

One of the highest profile prospects in Kentucky’s 2025 class, Boone was playing with Woodford County this weekend. One of the top athletes in Kentucky, Boone had a monster poster dunk against Daviees County in an impressive win on Sunday afternoon. Also knocking down a couple 3-pointers, Boone’s shot leads to him jumping a few feet forward when he’s well behind the line. Also one of the top defenders in Kentucky, Boone made some impact plays on that end of the court as well. Holding five Division I offers, I saw each of those schools this weekend watching Boone as he’s a priority for a handful of regional programs.

Melo is coming off a strong opening weekend in the EYBL and was offered by Miami (OH) earlier today. An athletic slasher and solid shooter, Boone is primed for a monster spring and summer where he could rack up a lot of offers.

There weren’t a ton of Kentucky prospects playing on the EYBL circuit this weekend, but one player I had to watch was Boone for Team Thad. Out of all the games I watched this weekend, I’m not sure if any kid competed harder on both ends of the floor than Boone. Giving the top ranked point guard in the country fits defensively, Boone made it difficult for opposing ball handlers to create any space with his pressure and ability to fight over screens. Combine this with a couple blocks and steals from help-side defense and Boone was everywhere on that end of the court. Offensively, Boone is limited at the EYBL level as a scorer but played off two feet and usually made smart decisions with the basketball. In transition, Boone had a couple breakaway dunks when he got behind the defense. I loved how hard Boone played this weekend and thought he did himself a ton of favors with his performance against The Family.
