Here are this year’s teams: Bishop Kenny, Cypress Creek (Orlando), Edgewater, Eustis, Impact Christian Academy, Lake Highland Prep, Sarasota, Santa Fe Catholic, The Villages Charter, Victory Christian Academy, Windermere and Windermere Prep. Here are ten players to watch in the event:
The 6-5 sophomore combo guard is a dangerous threat when it comes to scoring on all three levels. The left-handed sharpshooter has played with more confidence since the start of his freshman season. He is also a huge threat on the glass as he keeps possessions alive with his ability to give his teammates second chance scoring opportunities.
The 6-3 junior guard does a great job when it comes to initiating the offense, as well as getting his teammates involved. Shoptaw is a dangerous three-level scoring threat when it comes to scoring off the bounce as well as off the catch. Shoptaw is also an above-average rebounder where he battles against bigger players for positioning and uses his quickness to push the basketball up the floor in transition.
A 6-3 senior guard and Florida Atlantic commit is a versatile scorer where he is also very creative with his handle and touch. Cason is able to create space and finish on the attack as well as making good decisions on passing the ball finding open teammates. On the defensive side, Cason plays with quick hands and can get steals which lead to transition baskets on the other end.
Highlights
The 6-0 senior guard does a good job at dictating the offense where he also brings a smooth mid-range game. Andino has great court vision and has a strong IQ on whether to shoot or pass the ball. He is also one of the top sharpshooters from the perimeter for his class in the state. Andino is an intriguing prospect who can make an impact at the next level.
The 6-4 senior guard continues to play with purpose as he has continued to improve his basketball IQ every time he steps onto the floor. Torres can also defend multiple positions with his versatility and improved footwork as well as rebound exceptionally well from the guard position.
Highlights
The 6-8 junior forward does a great job when it comes to owning the glass at both ends of the floor, playing with a ton of length and strength. On the offensive end, Drain has gained more consistency in improving his mid-range game where he is knocking down shots from 15 feet from the basket. Drain has also added some muscle since the start of last season where he limits the opposition from getting second chance scoring opportunities. Look for him to start gaining recruitment interest as the season rolls on.
The 6-2 sophomore point guard plays with an absolute spark where he provides quickness as well as becoming an inside-out scoring threat. He also has strong pass-first instincts as he has a mature game beyond his years. Earl has quietly emerged as one of the top point guards in the sophomore class, as he could start gaining college offers in the near future.
RJ Ingram
RJ Ingram
The 6-3 sophomore guard does a great job at taking care of the basketball making the right plays and has the tendency to takeover an offense. Ingram is a versatile scorer who can score on all three levels whether it’s off the catch or off the bounce. On the defense end, Ingram is a solid on-the-ball defender where he uses great footwork to stay in front of opposing guards forcing tough shots. I am intrigued to see how much his game will continue to grow as he has huge upside for the next two years.
The 6-3 senior guard brings an athletic presence as well as his ability to knock down shots from all three levels. On the defensive end, Drayton constantly applies great on-ball pressure as he is quick and has elite speed to maintain both guard positions. He is also considered to be an above-average rebounder for his size and uses his length to an advantage. Drayton has the potential to be a breakout player at the next level as he continues to play with a high motor.
Highlights
The 6-2 junior guard is one of the sharpest perimeter shooters in the state for the junior class. Darner plays at a high level where he can occasionally run the point guard position with his high IQ. He has a knack for knocking down open shots at a high percentage as well as defend at a high level. On the defensive end, Darner plays with a lot of toughness whether he’s guarding on or off the ball. He currently holds offers from Dartmouth, Jacksonville, Le Moyne, North Florida, Stetson and Youngstown State.
