The second live period for the spring when college coaches and scouts can be in attendance to evaluate high school players. There was plenty of talent in the gym, as always our focus is on NorCal Prospects first. Here’s who we thought played well at Crismon High School.
Jonathan Chapple Jonathan Chapple 6'0" | PG Oakland | 2024 State CA-N 6’1 2024 PG, Team Commit, Pinole Valley HS
A rising PG in NorCal. He did a good job of running the teams offense in half-court sets, showing patience, and giving directions. He has quality handles, good vision and passing. He has the toughness to handle physical play on drive into the paint from different angles. He has the slick handles to create shots for himself and others. His pull-up off the dribble and wing 3’s were going in.
Marcus Washington Marcus Washington 6'6" | PF Modesto Christian | 2024 State CA-N 6’7 2024 Forward Stockton Soldiers, Valley Christian HS
The long arm forward has excellent touch around the basket with length, and a solid body to finish through contact and over stretched arms. He works well from the mid to high post, and along the baseline knocking down short jumpers, facing up and taking his defender off the dribble. He’s taking and making his mid-range jumper. His rebounding is good.
Tzahari Trevino Tzahari Trevino 6'4" | CG Valley Christian | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 CG, Silicon Valley Soldiers 17U Elite, Valley Christian
He’s steadily improving his ability to score off the ball, and run the teams offense. He’s aggressive when he has the ball, using a good handle to attack, and freeze defenders from different angles, he’s playing through contact on the drive, and is hitting the mid-range pull-up off the dribble with some consistency.
Richard Banks Richard Banks 6'4" | PG Weston Ranch | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 G/W, Stockton Soldiers 17U, Weston Ranch
Banks has the tools to be an excellent on ball defender when he’s locked in. He used his length, and alertness to get multiple deflections that led to steals and turnovers. He’s a bit streaky, but capable of knocking down the 3ptr in the corners, and wings. At this event we noticed him initiating the offense, and handling the ball more up top and in transition.
Jaylen Wheeler Jaylen Wheeler 6'2" | PG Fremont Oakland | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 Guard, Team Rampage National, Salesian College Prep
Wheeler has the skills to be a good all around prospect at the guard position. He has the handles and the ability to score the ball off the dribble, in transition, or using good movements to get to his spots for pull-up jumpers from the mid-range areas. His foot speed and lengthy arms allows him to defend full court and on the perimeter.
Nick Cubley Nick Cubley 6'3" | SG San Marin | 2024 State CA-N 6’3 2024 Guard, Team Rampage National, San Marin
Cubley is a hard playing guard that generates his points with his fearless attack into the paint. He has improving guard skills, and handles that enable him to attack the rim along the perimeter, including hards drives from the baseline. He comes at you hard in transition looking to throw it down it there’s a path. He hits the mid-range jumper with good lift. At 6’3 he’s a rebounding guard.
EJ Campbell EJ Campbell 6'0" | CG Mountain House | 2024 State CA-N 6’2 2024 Guard, The Academy, Mountain House
A well built guard who can knock down the 3ptr from long distance when he has time to set his feet. He uses his solid body, and handles to effectively get into the paint for strong finishes around the rim and paint jumpers. He has good body control to avoid charges. He did well in transition finishing, and passing it up. He doesn’t mind the physical play, he’ll challenge you on the drive.
