Banks has all the tools to be a top notch defender when he’s locked in, he’ll guard ball handlers, and shooters. He’s long with lengthy arms and foot speed. He’s good up top baiting ball handlers, stabbing at the ball, using quick hands to get deflections, he disrupts the flow of offense at times. At 6’4 he’s sharpening his point guard skills up top, he has work to do, but showing he’s capable of facilitating in half-court sets. He’s good in transition, and will hit the 3 on occasion.

Richard had 19 points and 2 three’s in Weston Ranch’s win over Bakersfield Christian. He picked up several deflections and rebounds to make an impact on the defensive end and provided his team with solid spacing as a three point shooter. Banks plays with great energy and tenacity and is the kind of player whose contributions go beyond the box score.

Banks is one of the better defenders in NorCal. Some players have a knack for doing certain things. Banks alertness on the defensive side of the ball playing center field uses his quick hands and feet in pressure situations to get steals that leads to buckets or offensive possessions. He’s lurking and anticipating the pass. He’s good at filling lanes for transition buckets, he’ll knock down an open 3, he’s a willing passer up the court. He doesn’t have to score to effect the game.

Banks is probably underrated at a defender, he has the tools to be a disruptor if he locks in on that side of the ball. He has good lateral movement with quick hands and feet to cause turnovers, get steals that turn into bucket, he’s good up top. He has the ball more to use his dribble, and quickness to attack the paint, he’ll drop a corner 3.
