Please note – These are only a few of the great performances from week one. I can’t fit all in one article. Our team will do it’s best to highlight the great performances throughout the season with weekly updates.
It would be hard to find a better stat line in week one. He scored 31 and had 10 rebounds in a 81-74 loss to Hermiston. He followed that with his third 30 plus performance with 32 in a 64-40 win over Eastlake. He is tough from all levels, inside and out. He was an all league first team pick last year for Ellensburg. He appears to be an early season favorite to challenge for league MVP this season. He will have competition from his own teammate. Gavin Marrs Gavin Marrs 6’11” | PF Ellensburg | 2023 State WA had a monster game against Hermiston with 22 points and 17 rebounds. He followed with 20 and 9 vs Eastlake. Ellensburg will be a team to watch in 2A this season with two of the top players in the state.

He showed little rust coming straight from the football field to the court. He dropped 30 vs White Swan in a 80-55 win in the season opener for Toppenish. He is a shooter from the point guard position. He is a multi-year starter and returning 1st team all league pick. He is one of the best point guards in 1A. He plays under control with toughness. He is a good defensive player. He can get to the basket and he sees the floor well. He also had 17 and 16 in the other two games Toppenish played last week. Along with Shane Rivera, Toppenish will be a team that can make a post season run.
Highlights
He helped Jackson to a 66-62 victory over Mark Morris with 30 points on 11-13 shooting from the field and 4-6 from the line.
No surprise here, he scored 34 points in the opener vs Montesano. He is a bucket getter. He already has over a thousand points in his career and he is only a junior. He can make shots from anywhere. He is big enough to post up smaller players and he’s a lights out shooter from long distance. He averaged 26 last season and will likely get more this year. He will be a problem in the Central 2B.
He averaged 26.5 points in the two games Mark Morris played last week. He had 28 to open the season in a victory over Mountlake Terrace. He followed that with 25 in the loss to Jackson. No surprise here either. He averaged 19 a game last season. I have written about him before and mentioned that he keeps getting better, year after year. He is quicker, and stronger. He has always been a bucket getter. He is a fun player to watch with his craftiness and lights out shooting. Mark Morris has two of the best pure scoring guards in 2A with he and Braydon Olson Braydon Olson 6’2″ | CG Mark Morris | 2024 State WA .
He had 31 points in a 72-70 overtime win vs West Valley. I watched him a few times in the off-season. I’m not surprised. He is a great shooter with range and he plays hard. He gets points in the paint and rebounds well. Not only is he talented but that extra effort often will lead to buckets. He is a tough match-up with size and shooting ability from the wing. He will be counted on heavily this year for a Kamiakin team that graduated a ton of talent.
