About Josh
Expert Analysis
Devin Record | Prep Hoops Scout
Josh had a phenomenal senior season, leading Toppenish to the state tournament. He even played some of his best basketball in the state tournament, earning all first team honors. Perez plays such tough, hard-nosed defense. He isn’t afraid to get into the opposing players face and guard them closely. He plays with a ton of confidence, rightfully so. He knocks down the deep shot with ease and is quick off the first dribble.

He showed little rust coming straight from the football field to the court. He dropped 30 vs White Swan in a 80-55 win in the season opener for Toppenish. He is a shooter from the point guard position. He is a multi-year starter and returning 1st team all league pick. He is one of the best point guards in 1A. He plays under control with toughness. He is a good defensive player. He can get to the basket and he sees the floor well. He also had 17 and 16 in the other two games Toppenish played last week. Along with Shane Rivera, Toppenish will be a team that can make a post season run.

The senior point guard will also likely have his season delayed a week or two playing QB on the Toppenish football team. That shouldn’t matter much, as he is a multi-year starter who will pick up where he left off as one of the best point guards in 1A

He’s busy as an all state caliber quarterback on the football team right now. When he steps onto the basketball floor, he carries that leadership to the point guard position as a multi-year starter. Solid all around player who has a nice looking jumper, and shoots a high percentage from three and the line. He’s tough and good at getting into the lane where he can finish using a nice floater or getting to the bucket. He’s a reliable ball handler with high basketball IQ. He was arguably their best player on a great team last season. He will have to up the scoring volume even more this season. Toppenish lost some good players to graduation but he remains a steadying force that can score and distribute from the point guard position.

He’s a well-known name in the 1A world but Perez doesn’t get a ton of recognition outside of that. He’s a stout defender, reliable from behind the arc, and runs the show for a Toppenish team that went 23-4 last season. He exudes leadership with his steady play and has the presence of a player ready for any situation on the court.

Speaking of all state caliber quarterbacks, here’s another one. He’s a true point guard on my team with elite shooting skills. He’s tough and with these two QBs, I have leadership in the backcourt. He’s steady with the ball and can be trusted under pressure. That goes for both sports.

He’s been a staple for Toppenish hoops and football for the last few years, leading both to state tournament appearances last year. As the QB on the football team and point guard in hoops. He’s an all state talent in both. He’s a dependable point guard and a great shooter. Tough in the lane, he’s strong enough to take the contact and finish. He plays smart and is a true floor general you can trust with the ball in his hands. Both Toppenish and Zillah were among the best teams in class 1A the last two years. They aren’t going anywhere.
