Skill, shooting, leadership, and grit, these guys bring it all to the hardwood and are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the depth of talent in this class. These are the top five guards in the 2024 class from the Seattle/Tacoma area.
No. 1 | Already one of the top recruits in the state, Diallo has seen his stock rise immensely over the summer. He’s done this by being a two-way impact player that can run the show offensively, add in a versatile attack focused on getting inside, and use his length and anticipation to disrupt sets on defense. He’s racked up offers from UCLA, USC, Florida State, Cal, Arizona, and LSU over the summer. He’s prepared to lead Curtis on another state title run next season and continue to climb the national ranks.
No. 2 | Carter is a big guard that brings excellent playmaking ability as well as deep three-point range. He was one of the older players on a young Annie Wright squad last year that lost at state to the eventual first and second place teams. Carter can make some flashy plays at times and can really score in the paint when he makes the effort. I’d like to see him be more aggressive this season and really set the pace for the Gators, who have the talent to turn the heat up on the rest of 1A in 2022.
No. 3 | Davis is a kid who has to see the floor well and pick his spots to attack. He’s going to get substantially more minutes this season on the varsity squad and expectations will be high. Davis is more than capable of making the right passes, setting the offense in motion, and lacing passes through tight windows, conjuring up easy buckets for teammates. He’s got the ability to hit the outside shot and is pretty good at maneuvering around the bigs inside for nifty finishes. I know Davis has the talent to succeed right away, but I’m going to be watching to see how he handles the added pressure of leading this kind of squad up the court early in the season.
No. 4 | Whitten is a tough, gritty player at the guard spot that forces opposing players to step it up a notch both physically and mentally. He’s a player that thrives on the details and has a fairly simple approach to the game, playing high-efficiency basketball. He’s a lockdown defender that knows the worth of each possession. On offense, he has great finishing ability at the hoop, goes to the rim strong, and sinks his free throws with ease. He’s just another winning player on Curtis who looks to perfect the basics of the game and out work his opponents.
No. 5 | This final spot was a tough one to choose but based on Walker’s dominance to end the summer, he had to be the choice. Early in the last high school season Walker had moments of brilliance leading Silas in scoring and bringing energy his teammates could feed off of. It might have been a year early for him to fully breakout, as he had to shoulder a much bigger load with Cayden McDaniel Cayden McDaniel 6’3″ | CG BFL Prep | 2023 State WA out. This year looks like the year the self-proclaimed “Young Born Ready” Tacoma kid is going to fully bust out. His scoring output has boomed to end the summer and he is ready to claim one of the top guard spots in the area.
