About Cayden
Expert Analysis
Ryan Morgan | Prep Hoops Scout
McDaniel is a guy who’s been through the gambit in the last two years, dealing with injury, then making the decision to leave Silas for BFL this season. After receiving multiple division one offers his sophomore year, he started to regain his form last summer and into this season, where has really found his stride with BFL prep. The guard is a strong player with the ball, combining patience with excellent floor vision and an ability to stretch the defense with his shot. He is fully capable of running on offense with the intangibles you look for in a showrunner. McDaniel has offers from Washington, Oregon State, Utah, Pepperdine, UCSB, Montana, and Portland State.

When you watch McDaniel, and you see the way he moves out on the floor it is apparent there is something special about the guy. He didn’t light it up from the field like we are often used to seeing, but even in brief moments, a step back here, a contested fadeaway there, you can see the ease with which he makes the tough plays look routine. However, this weekend it was his playmaking that stood out. He seemed to have eyes on the back of his head and found teammates without giving a hint to the defense. He had some truly masterful passes and is able to make just about any type or length of pass you need.

McDaniel is a player who could have a season quite similar to one of the top seniors last season, Dylan Darling. Silas was a middle of the pack team without McDaniel last year, but they have enough talent to make a splash in 3A and McDaniel has the elite ability to make those around him better. He can score from all over, is a big body that plays stout defense, and has the vision and feel to hit teammates at the perfect time. He could be an intriguing pick for Player of the Year if all goes right at Silas.

McDaniel is back for his senior season and leads a Silas squad that should not go overlooked. He already holds offers from Washington, Montana, Portland State, and Portland, but should get a lot more once the season gets going. McDaniel had one of the stronger sophomore seasons you’ll see, controlling pace, firing from long-range and showing elite finishing at the rim. After missing last year, he is back to lead Silas to its first state tournament since his freshman year when McDaniel and Damani Green led then Wilson to a fourth-place finish.

No. 7 | This player was a hard one to rank. Everyone familiar with him knows his talent, and would not be shocked to see him rise toward the top of the list. For McDaniel, it’s more of just getting games under his belt after missing so much time. That will be much easier to get during the high school season than a summer of traveling. Don’t be surprised to see a rapid rise shortly after the start of the high school season.
