Standing at roughly 5’9, Contreras will be a popular name over the next few years thanks to his IQ, leadership, and ability to control the pace at such a young age. Although undersized, Contreras has no fear getting to rack for drive and kick situations or drawing contact against the opposing big man. On multiple occassions versus Mountain Vista (another 5A Sweet 16 finisher), the point guard had pinpoint one handed passes hitting corner and wing shooters. Another unique trait is his defensive IQ, especially while taking charges versus guys nearly ten inches taller. Contreras helped lead Smoky Hill to a win for the weekend championship, capping off a successful bunch of passing and defensive games.
Josiah Sanders Josiah Sanders 6'4" | PG Colorado Prep | 2025 State #310 Nation CO – Cherokee Trail – Roughriders – 2025 (pictured above)
The game came easy for Sanders, a 6’1 lefty lead guard who was automatic getting to the rim while demonstrating elite defensive flashes. Let’s start with his offensive repertoire, he was capable getting wherever he wanted due to his powerful handle. Whatever move he chose got him separation in isolation or pick and roll situations. Two or three times he split an oncoming double team for an open layup or a dump off down low. When needing to get creative around the rack, he scored using euro steps and gathers. Defensively, Sanders can match up with any guard as a point of attack defender or as a help side shot blocker. Versus Kent Denver, Sanders recorded at least three blocked shots.
Caleb Fay – Kent Denver – Colorado Hawks – 2026
Fay is the lone 2026 guard on this list and also the tallest at 6’3. Already a dependable driver with the right hand, Fay was a consistent threat getting inside. His above average first step and acceleration created immediate disadvantages for opposing paint defenders, who had to rotate for contests. Fay proved he could make the immediate read to a corner shooter once the weakside help arrived. He was excellent crashing the offensive glass with authority, as he boasted the strength and agility to match up with older players.
Anthony Nettles Anthony Nettles 5'10" | PG Douglas County | 2025 State CO – Douglas County – Prolific Elite – 2025
Nettles is another excellent combo guard who may be successfully deployed either on or off the ball. Standing at roughly 5’9, the wiry guard is a pest on defense due to his twitch reflexes, notching two to three steals per game. Off-ball, Nettles was a dependable floor spacer off the catch, regardless of a hard contest. Bringing a versatile offensive skillset, Nettles will be a major part of Douglas County’s success this upcoming season.
Reilly Guerra Reilly Guerra 6'1" | PG Douglas County | 2024 State CO – Douglas County – Collective – 2024
Guerra at roughly 6’ has improved tremendously throughout the offseason, specifically with his passing vision. Versus Dakota Ridge, he was incredibly consistent getting downhill where he probed around for a open shooter or to draw fouls. He was especially patient along the baseline, routinely looking for open guys as aggressive help approached. Guerra showed no fear grabbing fouls around the rack, where he could not miss from the line. Although he did not take a ton of threes, I have no doubt Guerra is consistent off the catch given his free throw consistency.
