Expert Analysis
Clayton Conover | Prep Hoops Scout
The nationally coveted lead guard has narrowed his list down to five programs, setting himself up for success at the next level. Those schools in order of visits are Colorado, San Diego State, Northwestern, Stanford, and concluded with Tennessee in the second week of October. Few prospects are quite like Sanders, given his strength and shotmaking abilities from all three levels, not found often in lead guards.

Holding wide ranging interest from mid and high major programs, Sanders is the complete package at the lead guard position. A smooth downhill playmaker with the ball, Sanders handles pressure well, dishing out plenty of contact while attacking the rim. His notable physicality makes him a versatile defender who shows the ability to defend bigger matchups in the post when necessary. A special finisher around the rim, Sanders has proven himself to be elite at readjusting versus contact or drawing in free throws from those looks. Continuing to develop as a three point shooter, Sanders remains the top name in the state.

The lead guard is a bully while attacking the rim, effective dishing out contact or readjusting for mid-air finishes at rim. He commands plenty of gravity with the ball, drawing in defenders on drives, for plenty of kickout passes for shotmakers. His strong frame allows Sanders to defend 1 through 3 from opposing lineups, making him the more physically imposing guard in this class.

Sanders brings a myriad of skills to the table, especially strong and athletic while getting to the basket. The guard is a versatile and productive finisher around the rim, effectively taking bumps and readjusting mid-air for finishes. Dependable getting downhill, the guard draws plenty of attention and double teams. When opponents prove aggressive on help defense from those drives, Sanders is particularly effective sending quick kickouts to perimeter shooters. Defensively, the guard can match up with both backcourt opponents, although his strength may allow him to guard up if necessary. Sanders remains one of the state’s most talented guards, holding an offer from Northern Colorado.

Josiah’s game continues to get better and better each time I see him and you can the game has started to really show down for him. With that, he is able to see plays develop before other guards, giving him an advantage on both ends of the floor. He’s really good in transition when teams are trying to stop the break. Over the summer I’ve seen a different side of him defensively, refusing to get scored on and forcing guards into their second and third moves.

Sanders was one of the most impressive players of the day. His ability to affect the game from all over the court and in a variety of roles was a big eye opener for the 2025 guard’s potential. He can score from all three levels, handles the ball with confidence, and plays at his pace with ball fakes, pivots, and crafty moves off the ball.
