About Waleed

How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?

I'm an all-around player. Everything starts with my defense. I take pride in being able to guard the opposing team's best player. I have a high basketball IQ and can score at all three levels, but I love creating scoring opportunities for my teammates.

Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?

I come from a big family, of which I am very close to, and I am 1 of 7 boys (one of the youngest), so I have experienced a lot growing up with them. This has given me a certain level of mental toughness and grit that a lot of players don't have. I remain calm and confident under pressure and live for the moment and look to make plays however I may help the team

Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?

I have received the Scholar award this past year for maintaining over a 3.2 GPA during the football and basketball seasons. I am a part of a youth mentorship program in Minneapolis aswell.

What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?

I have done a lot of community service over the years, helping senior citizens thru a tech program, neighborhood cleanups, feeding the homeless and handing out household items, backpacks, etc. to community members as a part of the mentorship program I'm involved in.

Have you faced any significant challenges? If so, please describe.

Many. I have had many injuries including a compound fracture in Elementary school playing football, I had some academic issues during my freshman year at Breck which I had to work through, I transferred to a new school and had to mesh my game with the players who were already established there, I have lost family members and important people in my life over the past couple of years.

What type of college are you looking for?

I am looking to play at the highest level and go to a college that has a great academic and athletic program that I can grow in and contribute to.

Waleed continues to get better with each watch and he turned in a well rounded performance in a blowout win. He keeps becoming more confident with his shot from the perimeter, knocking down pull-up jumpers from three and from the mid-range. He is still one of the best attacking guards in the state, using his quick burst and physicality to convert around the rim through contact.
