Martin is a flame thrower and a strong contender to move up to the vacated #1 slot. The Illini commit had his future coaching staff three deep on Friday while he did what he does best. Knock down spot up and off the move threes in bunches. Elite release and knows how to create just enough space for deep threes. Mixed in some turnaround Js out of the mid-post and got to the line. His size and elite shot will make him a Big 10 player down the line.

is a skilled guard who showed impressive ball-handling ability for his size in games against Benet Academy and Bolingbrook. Martin was noticeably smooth with the ball in his hands, with clean shooting mechanics on both his jump shot and free throws. Martin also moved well without the ball, making smart cuts to the rim. As he continues to develop, improving his shot selection by not taking unnecessary three-pointers and maximizing his shooting consistency will elevate his offensive potential. However, Martin’s natural ball-handling skills, size, and versatility popped on the court throughout the first day of play.

It becomes obvious very quickly why Martin was an early take for Illinois in the Class of 2027. He is an elite shooter and that was on fully displaying on Saturday at 3SSB Session II. We had the chance to see him catch fire from beyond the arc for Breakaway Basketball 17u and it was fun to watch. When he is feeling it there is very little the defense can do to stop him from shooting it in from deep.

Big time 6’4” sharpshooter for Breakaway 3SSB got going in the second half and put on an impressive shooting performance. Good positional size with a quick release and deep range. Does a good job getting himself open. Knows how to read screens and always seems to be in balance when getting into shot. Also showed the ability to play off the dribble and get into the midrange as well as all the way to the basket where he’s a crafty finisher.

You won’t find many better pure shooters in the country than Mason Martin Mason Martin 5'3" MN . He’s the type of guard who could put up 20+ points without taking a single dribble, as he’s that good at hitting shots off the catch. Particularly at the high school level, you don’t see many players who can catch on the move and quickly square up to elevate into their jumper. Because of this Mason excelled at curling off of screens and getting his shot off before the chasing defender could catch up to him. Lights out shooter with the length needed to compete at the next level.
