Expert Analysis
Scott Burgess | Prep Hoops Scout
Kelly is pretty consistent game in and game out. The skilled point forward does what he does at a very high level every time we see him. Plus plus shooter with one of the best shooting strokes in the state both pulling up and off the catch. Elite passing feel with his high IQ and vision seeing over the defense thinking one step ahead. An area we saw growth was his defense as he played quality defense against a pair of teams with solid wing athletes. The one stretch that impressed us was when he defended on the perimeter for multiple seconds, forced a tough shot on contest, snatched rebound, pushed the other way, then threw an on the point dime.

Kelly is the real deal! The Neuqua Valley small forward is one of the most skilled players in the entire country in his class. He is a point-forward with elite passing instincts both in the half court and open floor. The way he sees the game is super impressive! Quality rebounder with a clean looking jumper that can shot fake getting to the rim. Such a well rounded player that can beat a team in so many different ways!

It’s always impressive when players are dominant on top shoe circuits at the 17 U level before they are a rising senior and this is the second season where Kelly has done just that for Breakaway Basketball. Kelly has added a lot of functional weight which allows him to not get pushed off his driving angle and finish through contact. While some people might characterize Kelly as a shooter, he was one of the most impactful players on the court despite a subpar game from 3-point range. Kelly rebounds the ball at a high rate and sets teammates up thanks to the gravity he has on and off the ball. A prospect we are just higher than the rest of the industry on, Kelly is a clear high major priority recruit in the class of 2028.

Kelly was one of the first out-of-state prospects to catch my attention at the Run N Slam. A national Top 50, four-star prospect in the Class of 2028, Kelly was one of the best players in the gym while playing up a year for Breakaway 3SSB 17u. The ultra-skilled 6’7″ wing had a huge 26-point performance on Sunday to advance Breakaway into the 17u finals. His versatile offensive skill set was very impressive while playing against some of the best competition in the event.
