Evans made a statement at the Step Higher Tip Off and reminded people why he’s one of the top players in central Ohio regardless of class. A wing guard with the strength to overpower defenders at the high school level, Evans was getting where he wanted to off the dribble and using his athleticism at both ends of the court. Already a priority among MAC programs, Evans holds offers from 5 schools in that league.

I haven’t gotten to see Evans much since an injury kept him out during the spring live period and most of June. Back at 100% for Pickerington Central, Evans wanted to remind fans that he’s one of the top players in Ohio’s 2027 class. Evans was getting to his spots in the mid-range and rising up over shot contests to knock down tough pull-ups. His best shot of the day came off a pull-up above the break 3-pointer. Evans also had a nasty dunk in traffic and made some plays as a helpside rim protector as the Tigers were playing without two of their forwards on Saturday. With a statement performance like that, Evans looks set to have a monster junior season. His strength allows him to overpower a lot of smaller wings who defend him.

Evans was in his bag in a solid win over Mass Rivals, where he displayed various moves to create scoring opportunities from 3-levels. The 6-foot-4 combo guard is active on the boards with the handle to push the ball up the court, uses his length to disrupt his opponents vision on the perimeter, as well as poke the ball out to get out in transition. What caught my attention was Evans ability to create his own offense. Evans has good movement off the ball to get open looks off the catch, used the crossover to create space from his defender with good lift on the mid-range jumper, and displayed countless ways to score at the basket, as he used the Euro-step move and the spin move off the attack to evade his defender. Evans is a player to keep an eye on with good size and skill to keep moving up the list of impressive 2027 prospects.

Evans has been rebounding the ball at an elite level for a Midwest Basketball Club 16 U squad that is undersized but getting the job done here in Rock Hill. Evans scored on the interior with a putback layup, a step through and an and-1 finish as his aggressiveness in the paint was a plus. Defensively Evans bothered the opposition with his activity on the ball and he slid over to take a charge. Nice to see Evans find a quality team to make an impact on after he was sidelined with an injury during a majority of the May live period.

Evans who thrives using his big frame to bully others around and does a nice job picking and choosing his spots to score from fielded interest from several division one programs. Purdue, Ohio State, Dayton, VCU, UAB, Richmond, Miami (OH), & Marshall contacted him. While Toledo and Cleveland State extended him offers. Evans will be one of the best prospects in central Ohio and should have a big junior campaign.

This was one of the better performances I have seen Evans play. He was highly engaged and was not settling. In the first quarter of the game, it seemed he either scored or assisted on every point for All-Ohio. No one was stopping him from getting to his right hand and driving to the rim. Every time down the court he got to the rim. He looked quick and fast but kept a good level of physicality that allowed him to not get bumped off his line. He was getting downhill in the half-court and transition. He looked psychically great which is huge for him going into his Junior year for Pick Central. No one could stop him and showed that he was easily the best player on this 16U All-Ohio squad.

My first time watching Pickerington Central this season and Evans continued to show why he’s regarded as one of the top players in Ohio’s 2027 class. Evans was cooking on Saturday from the perimeter, knocking down some tough shots off the dribble. I was also impressed by Evans ability to drive to the basket and play through contact with a couple contested finishes and a couple foul line trips. We’ll be following Evans this summer on the grassroots circuit as well, he’ll likely be pursued heavily by Division I programs once the June contact period opens for 2027 prospects.

Evans has the skill and talent that you want in a player. He handles the ball well for a bigger guard and because of his size, he gets the rim well. St. Ed’s applies a lot of pressure, and he did a good job of attacking it. He showed off his toughness because he used his body well to get rebounds. He used his body effectively to help him score around the basket.

Evans had a big-time freshman year for Pick Central and I expect him to have a big role this year for the Tigers. He has the confidence and ability to do just this for them. He has gained some nice size and strength to him but maintained the same level of athletic ability. This size will allow him to have a bigger impact this year at attacking the rim. He has a smooth jumper that he hits consistently so I think the added strength will only open the game up more for him.

Evans is a player coming off a good impactful freshman season and looks ready to step into a bigger role. He has the confidence and skill set to do just that for the Tigers. He seemed to have gained some good weight and strength this offseason. This will allow for better finishes and the rim. His shoot looks as smooth as ever too.
