It was truly neck and neck between Moore and Allen for that #1 spot. He has quickly climbed our rankings in the year-plus that I’ve been here, jumping from #16 to #8, from #8 to #4, and now from #4 to #2. There are a lot of positives to be taken from the season Kaleb had with Carolina Premier , and earning lots of national attention on the UAA circuit. His on-ball playmaking skills are probably the most intriguing development in his game, paired with elite-level athleticism. Now with his own team at Christ Church, it will be interesting to see how he continues to grow and improve before the start of a crucial junior year.

-Allen left his imprint on every game that he played in throughout the week as a dynamic 2/3 tweener that impacts the game with his physicality and athleticism. Allen served as an ultra effective defender and rebounder throughout the weekend, scaling up or down in the lineups without experiencing a drop-off as a guy that meets his opponent at his spots and simply overpowers them. Allen also applied a ton of pressure on the rim and showed an ability to score through contact with a series of stride step, pivot step through, and euro step finishes to use his defender’s momentum against them to put them on their heels to both draw fouls and score effectively in the paint. The combination of strength to finish through contact, explosive left-leg leaping in transition, and the patience to hit defenders with pump fakes and wait that extra half beat before laying the ball in on the now-open rim as the defenders flew out of the frame. 

One of the biggest announcements of the summer was Kaleb Allen Kaleb Allen 6'6" | SF/CG Christ Church Episcopal | 2028 State SC ‘s transfer to Christ Church Episcopal School. It was one in the works for a while, but nonetheless, it sent shockwaves across the state. This move immediately makes Christ Church a contender in Class 3A and Kaleb one of the favorites for Class Player of the Year.

Although I didn’t get to see him in person this month, it was evident that Kaleb had an excellent scholastic period. Allen received his first offer from the University of South Carolina on June 15th, then later picked up offers from Virginia Tech, Furman, UTEP, and Anderson. The Hokies seem to have established some early momentum, as Allen already took a visit to Blacksburg, but expect many more schools to come calling in the month of July.

Kaleb Allen Kaleb Allen 6'6" | SF/CG Christ Church Episcopal | 2028 State SC was one of, if not the most exciting, prospects in the gym on Saturday. He’s taken some massive steps with his development over the past few months and will have college coaches knocking on his door in the very near future. One of the things that Kaleb has improved with is his playmaking ability. He has turned from a guy who only ends possessions into a guy who can start them and run offense for his team. Allen’s length and athleticism will always jump out at you, but if he continues to be a well-rounded player with facilitating, shooting, and defense, he has a chance to be special.

Allen has really hit the ground running in his return to Carolina Premier. The Under Armour program has been busy over the past few weeks, but it feels like their best prospect has been a frequent standout no matter the setting. Kaleb has one of the better off-the-dribble scoring packages in his class, so that, combined with his length and athleticism, is why he has tons of excitement around his game.

Rounding off my list of standouts from the Runnin’ Rebels Summer Shootout is TL Hanna’s Kaleb Allen Kaleb Allen 6'6" | SF/CG Christ Church Episcopal | 2028 State SC . Kaleb had an eye-opening season on the UAA Circuit and looks like he could be ready to produce as one of “the guys” for the Yellow Jackets this year. He had 14 points in a matchup with Fox Creek, using his size and athleticism to finish at the rim. Kaleb is a smart and active cutter, often helping out his teammates when they get in tough positions. Allen also knocked down a pair of mid-range jumpers in the win.
