Janssen is one of the best-kept secrets in the state. When you ask people outside of the Upstate about him, they wouldn’t know him, but if you talk to people inside the Legacy program, they are extremely high on his ceiling. Clinkscales was the best prospect I saw at the Sizzlin’ Summer Shootout two years in a row, showing elite size, skill, and rim protection, but he is also beginning to emerge from a national perspective thanks to good showings at the Crossroads Invitational Camp and the UAA Finals.

I was first introduced to him at this event last year, and it’s starting to feel like things are clicking for Janssen on the court. He used his size to make his presence felt defensively, blocking three shots and collecting 12 rebounds in a matchup with Westside. Although he moves pretty well and can block shots in the paint or on the perimeter, Clinkscales still has another level to get to defensively once he perfects his timing.

Janssen went from an unknown in most circles to a guy who has the potential to be special this weekend. Clinkscales spent his Freshman Season at Southside High School but got some run in his new team’s blowout win over Westside on Saturday. In these minutes, he showed flashes of being a modern big man with two driving and-ones, a steal turned into a transition dunk, and a catch-and-shoot three. Clinkscales put up 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 block in the second half of the Legacy’s Silver Bracket Championship Game Win.
