I only got to see JJ briefly during the “crunch time” portion of the event, but even in those limited minutes he showed why he’s one of the best players still on the board in the 2025 class. He just plays with a different level of composure, never seeming to get fazed by anything the defense throws at him. He can score from all three levels, changes speed well to make him unpredictable, and isn’t afraid to pass up on a good look to get an even better shot for a teammate.

JJ was coming up with some big plays defensively to help lead Hopkins past a tough St. Louis Park team on Friday night. Physically he wasn’t able to match up with the Curtis Twins (very few players in the state can), but his quick hands and timing allowed him to come up with steals/blocks in bunches. He was utilizing his long arms to contest around the rim, just getting a hand on the ball to either force a miss or jump-ball call. Time after time SLP was attacking him at the rim, and JJ was able to get a hand in and force a tie-up. Offensively he knocked down some tough mid-range shots, while also showing his touch around the rim to finish with 19 points. Ended the game with an impressive 5 steals and 4 blocks.

JJ Semanko JJ Semanko 6'6" | SF Hopkins | 2025 State MN – Semanko is a six-foot-five-inch 2025 wing that does a little bit of everything for the Royals. Reliable outside shooter, very good passer with good instincts, rebounds, and takes on the difficult defensive assignment like he did versus Orono.
