Ryan Schmidt | Prep Hoops Scout
Jaylen Hynes is a six-foot-three-inch 2027 Totino-Grace guard that played with Gain Elite P32 this past summer. Hynes as an 8th grader played a little of Varsity at Minneapolis South and in the summer of 2023 he showed he was an aggressive slasher that was an accurate outside shooter. In the State Tournament last spring Hynes displayed he still has that spot-up shooting ability and made a number of 3-pointers for Totino-Grace in their run at the 3A State Title. Hynes displays ability as secondary ball handler and has good passing vision.

is a player that we have seen have scoring spurts are special. There have been times we’ve seen Hynes score three or four threes in a flash, make a couple pull-up jumpers, and smoothly go to the rim and make a play. But Hynes has always played for very good teams – Totino-Grace,
Gain Elite
and
D1 Minnesota
– and Hynes fits in well with those teams as a good decision maker and a smart player that scores within his role.
After seeing that Tian Chatman picked Dakota State it jumped into my head that I thin Hynes could do very well at the NAIA level as well.

Totino-Grace’s lead was firmly established in the first half against Richfield, with a big part of that coming from the shooting touch of

. Playing on a loaded team he won’t put up the scoring numbers that he would at almost any other school, but we saw flashes of what he can do with the ball. In the first half Hynes hit a pair of triples, and also knocked down a tough mid-range shot off the dribble. At 6’3 his long frame and elevation on his jumper makes it tough for defenders to contest. He played a key role in the win over #2 ranked Richfield.
