Expert Analysis
Mark Miller | Prep Hoops Scout
A rather quiet first half led to a loud second half for Cook, who popped in all but two of his 14 points after intermission. One of the state’s more accurate three-point shooters, Cook swished four triples against the Fury and needed just a second or two to let go from deep due to his quick release. Cook is showing the ability to play both guard spots this spring as he also did a nice job of setting up his teammates. A physical player who competes with lots of energy on both ends of the court, Cook is a player scholarship schools figure to watch closely this month and through July.

Cook scored just four points for 24: UP in its win over Pro Lane Walz. But he was still one of the most important pieces on the court for his squad in the highly competitive contest. Cook can shoot and release so quickly that he must be guarded at an exceptionally high level on every possession. That defensive attention can often lead to openings to the basket for his teammates as opponents fear leaving Cook to help out. Cook also stepped up big time on defense on Sunday as his on-ball pressure and ability to stay in front of backcourt players were instrumental in helping his squad earn a big win. On Saturday, Cook had 15 points and three rebounds as 24: UP posted the most impressive victory of the entire Madness in the Midwest event — a 65-63 triumph over D1 Minnesota, an adidas shoe team with plenty of high-major NCAA DI prospects.

Jayce was a key player for 24:Up in their win over D1 Minnesota 3SSB. Leading by two possessions for most of the second half, Jayce did a great job of keeping his team calm in the half-court, able to play under the pressure from the opposing guards, and wait for an open look to appear. Jayce knocked down his threes at a high percentage, and was able to help ice the game at the free throw line down the stretch. More known for his shooting, Jayce did a great job of getting his team past the full-court pressure and into their half-court sets against a team that features a ton of length and athleticism.

Cook was one of the players that stood out for New Berlin West in Wednesday night’s contest. Jayce has an extremely quick trigger three point shot and does not hesitate on getting attempts up from downtown. The 6-foot-2 prospect has made 78 total threes this year while shooting 37%. Overall, shots were hard to come by in the paint for West, but Cook was able to get a few rips to the basket on the baseline to showcase his ability to score in other ways other than shooting well from the perimeter. Cook led all scorers for West, finishing the game with 16 points. Cook plays on a very talented 24:UP club program and should continue to boost his stock this spring and summer as he proves his ability to defend and score the basketball. Jayce is one of the premier scorers and shooters in a loaded Division 2, Sectional 3 that features seven teams that were ranked in the top ten in Division 2 at one time this season.

A shooting guard with great distance with his jumper, Cook does a nice job of getting his shot off quickly. It might look a bit funky because of its low release, but his shot normally finds the bottom of the net. Cook had 26 points and scored at all three levels for New Berlin West in its win over Niles North. He is quick enough and strong enough off the dribble to get to the basket and finish. And, of course, if you play off of him, he will drill shot after shot from beyond the arc. A gym rate who loves to compete, Cook is ranked among the top 30 prospects in Wisconsin’s super talented 2027 class by Prep Hoops Wisconsin.

In a game that went down to the wire, Jayce helped his New Berlin West team come away with a win over Burlington. He showed why he’s considered one of the top three point shooters in his class, knocking down five shots from deep in the win. When he wasn’t making defenders pay for not keeping a hand up, Jayce was getting to the rim with hard cuts off the ball and finishing on the run in transition. He helped New Berlin West improve to 8-1 on the season.

Cook is a player you need to watch more than once to gain an appreciation for everything he does on the court. He will have games where his outstanding shooting shines brightest as he’s one of the best long-distance snipers in the state, regardless of class. But he’s far more than a just shooter. He plays with aggressiveness and quickness on defense, contesting passing lanes and staying in front of his opponent. Offensively, he’s ready to shoot on almost every catch, but he can also use a ball fake to get around his defender and either score or drop off a pass to a frontline teammate. The son of New Berlin West coach Scott Cook,
