Jake has been impressive for a really good Wayzata team this year, and Saturday’s game was no different. As a defender you just can’t afford to leave him any space, as he’s a lights out shooter who put up 12 points in the big win over North. Even if he’s not getting a ton of shots, defenders can’t afford to help off of him, which can open up some lanes/space for his teammates. Schmitt doesn’t waste and dribbles, and isn’t going to force up any bad looks either. He goes out and takes what the defense gives him, while playing rock solid defense on the other end. 3 & D type of player who comes from a winning program and knows how to play alongside high level talent.

Jake had a huge second half to help close out the win over Hopkins. The senior took advantage of the defense crashing down on players attacking the rim, leaving him with several open three-point looks. He did not waste these opportunities, as he sank 3 threes in the second half. He also had a nice back cut and finish, catching his defender sleeping. After a slow start, Wayzata is rolling and finds themselves on a ten game win streak. They look like true state title contenders once again.

Wayzata haven’t gotten off to the start they imagined, but they’ll still be a tough out for any team in the state. One of their key players to start the year has been

who looks to be a strong 3 & D type of player. The 6’1 guard has a strong frame, and deep range with the quick release to beat the closeout in getting his shot off. With the talent around him he knows he’s only going to get so many shots each game, and he’s been efficient with the chances he’s gotten. Defensively he’s going to be on the floor for every loose ball, and has shown a knack for moving his feet to draw charges.
