Hawthorne’s willingness to battle on the glass has been imperative for Northfield, maintaining their defensive toughness of late. Contributing to this group’s 9-4 record, he has been a steady play finisher around the rim, comfortable against contests. Additionally one of their higher volume free throw shooters, the forward has found a serviceable role around the paint. As he has continued to develop his handle attacking closeouts, Hawthorne’s improved decision making speed has allowed him to be a more formidable offensive presence as needed.

Hawthorne showed a consistent impact on finishes versus contact, active taking on mismatches in the paint. His timely cuts put him in great position to take advantage of openings in the lane. Defensively, they lived up to expectations, a switchable defender who remains a gritty matchup willing to take on anybody.

Hawthorne is a malleable defender whose wide reach and long strides allow him to cover plenty of ground on contests. Particularly effective deflecting passes, the wing created a few transition plays from his defensive presence. Another area of value has been his rebounding, eager to create chaos on the offensive glass. His production on spot-up jumpers in the mid-range has been dependable, taking advantage of space. Should a hard closeout approach, Hawthorne has become more consistent attacking downhill, drawing contact routinely at the rim.

Hawthorne looks like he has a lot to offer at the next level someday. He’s bouncy under the rim and his mid range game looks outstanding. Hawthorne can shoot over top of most defenders in the mid range and he has a nice soft touch on the ball from there, whether it be a floater or a jumper. Hawthorne plays well off the high post and can do work off the bounce on the perimeter.
