About Daniel
Expert Analysis
William Lloyd III | Prep Hoops Scout
Daniel was a physical high-motor combo guard that impacted the game with his toughness and activity on both ends. He mixed in scoring throughout the game and became more aggressive offensively when his team needed a basket. Uses his body well to establish position and finish baskets through contact. Defensively, Daniel showed up each game bringing strong awareness, reading passing lanes and coming away with steals that shifted momentum. His ability to contribute in multiple areas and make winning plays consistently stood out over the course of the postseason.

-Lewis continues his ascension in our rankings after turning in a First Team All-League season in Anne Arundel County en route to a finish in the state semifinals. Lewis’ drives generated a ~70% assist rate as a playmaker that did a great job of finding his teammates with or without ball screens being set for him. Love the physicality and decisiveness on his drives to the rim as he is adept at playing bully ball or exploding past his matchup on his way to the cup. Very excited to track his development in AAU this offseason.

Daniel brings a steady, consistent approach that helps settle his team on both ends of the floor. He shoots the ball well from all areas, but what stands out most is his ability to get to his spots through strength, balance, and smart changes of speed. He doesn’t waste possessions and consistently applies pressure by attacking downhill and drawing fouls. Defensively, he’s locked in from tip to buzzer, giving maximum effort every possession. His high IQ, physicality, and consistent two-way impact make him a reliable presence every night.

You can always expect a high intensity and 2-way performance from Daniel each game out. Defends the full length of the floor and never lets up on the opponent, causing pick-ups and turnovers consistently. Daniel can also score the ball effectively and I expect this season to showcase that. Spent the summer owning both ends of the court, picking up steals and also getting big baskets in the halfcourt whether beating his matchup or knocking down the jumpshot. Daniel is the type of player who could probably succeed at any level due to his style of play and grittiness. Ready to see the season he has after proving he can compete well against the best.

Another District Basketball Club guard that had an outstanding weekend at Hoop Group. Daniel was making plays left and right for the team, leading to wins all weekend. He was impressive defensively with the amount of offensive plays he broke up alone. Him and Chase were a problem defensively all weekend in the backcourt, creating suffocating double-teams and collecting steals all over the floor. Along with the defense, Daniel followed up with some nice scoring games on the other end. Strong with the ball inside, unafraid of the contact and pressure at the rim. Takes the ball strong off two feet and finished layups with control and concentration.

-Thought Lewis displayed a smooth offensive game in a nice win over a Suitland team that has a pretty talented backcourt. Lewis understands timing on ball screens, waiting for the help defense to clear before coming off of his teammates’ screen shoulder to shoulder before getting downhill or rising up for a jumper. He has the requisite ball skills to be successful, showing that he can raise up for a jumper or find teammates effectively off a live dribble. Lewis also does a great job of attacking the top shoulder and sees the floor well when he gets two feet in the paint. Lewis is also devastatingly-effective in transition, showing a good understanding of the importance of letting the ball go at just the right moment to force the defense to commit a beat before he lets a pass go.
