Expert Analysis

I had never seen Ash in person before last night, but he’s a true 7-footer with solid upper-body strength and a really intriguing skillset. The Ireland native has a nice-looking shot and made some threes from the outside, but he also has the ability to attack closeouts in certain situations and is a really solid passer and ball mover for his size. He obviously gets above the rim for dunks, too, though he also showed the ability to finish around the basket with both hands. Coordination and hands are always a swing factor for bigs of his size, but Ash has some special physical tools and skills that should make him a scholarship-level target, at least as a project for the future.

Ash, a center out of the St. Andrew’s School, checks in at #83 overall and #14 among the centers. Ash is a long and lean 7-footer that moves well in space, understands how to use his size to his advantage, and is a good mover along the baseline offensively. He’s capable of operating as a hard roller in ball screens, shows the ability to put the ball on the floor from the perimeter, and is consistently improving his ability to play and finish through contact around the rim. Defensively, he has the ability to protect the rim, to defend ball screens in a variety of ways, and even shows some lateral mobility when guarding on the perimeter.

Ash, a mobile 7-footer out of St. Andrew’s School in Rhode Island, appears on the Watch List in this update. A big prospect on the interior, he does a nice job of making plays from short corner to short corner, both as a finisher and as a creator. He tries to dunk everything he gets his hands on, has good passing instincts when the double team comes, and does a nice job of relocating off of drives. Defensively, he moves well laterally, which allows him to cover space quickly and effectively protect the rim. His shot blocking is a high level skill and allows him to be an impactful defender both on and off the ball.
