Our top ranked prospect in Ohio’s 2029 class showed the potential of why he’s so highly regarded in the Buckeye state. The young wing hit some tough shots from the perimeter with a sweet pull-up off a between the legs dribble move to free up space. Irby finished three for four from downtown and has continually improved as a perimeter shooter from around a year ago when I first watched him play. Irby’s four point play was a big turning point in the game and gave Indy Heat hope after squandering a double-digit lead. While Irby did struggle with turnovers, improvements in his ball handling ability should come over time and I believe in his ability to clean those mistakes up as he continues to develop. A prospect who is making a case to enter our national 2029 rankings at first release, Irby is trending upwards as one of the younger 2029 prospects playing at Peach Jam.

Irby is ranked by Prep Hoops Ohio as the #1 prospect in the state for the Class of 2029. It is pretty clear why. The smooth 6’6″ wing moves so well on the perimeter, has legitimate ball skill, and can utilize his positional size and length to finish around the basket. He shot it well from the perimeter on Tuesday going 3-4 from three-point range on his way to a team-high 20 points. Indy Heat 15u came up short losing 61-59 to Utah Prospects 15u, but Irby really flashed his upside all game long.

An elite prospect out of Ohio, Bryce Irby Bryce Irby 6'6" | SF Lutheran East | 2029 State OH got going early and often as Indy Heat 2029 EYBL rolled to victory in their first game of the live period. A long and athletic wing that showed his ability to score inside and out. Does a really good job playing on balance through drives and uses his athleticism to his length and athleticism to his advantage to explode to the rim and finish with authority. Also knocked down two early threes from the top of the key and made plays on the defensive end around the basket and in the passing lanes.

Our top ranked prospect in the 2029 class, Irby helped Lutheran East win their fifth consecutive state championship in March. Irby has the positional size and frame that you’d look for with a potential high major wing at the 15 U level. Able to knock down shots from the outside off the catch, play off two feet at the rim and use his positional versatility to guard multiple positions defensively and Irby checks a lot of boxes. Indy Heat should be competitive in the EYBL at the 15 U level with Irby as one of their featured prospects to watch.

One of the top long term prospects in northeast Ohio, Irby is still very much a baby on the court at just 14 years old but is already making a huge impact in high-pressure environments. I loved Irby’s live dribble passing, making some huge assists while the defense rotated to stop him. Defensively, Irby had some impressive shot contests by staying straight up and not fouling against older physical players. Overall Irby impacts winning in multiple ways without scoring the basketball which is so impressive for a 6’5 freshman wing who also knocked down a pair of 3-pointers, including one at the first quarter buzzer.

In an intense game filled with older players, Irby was one of the calmest players on the court despite being just a freshman. The wing made a handful of impressive passes with skips across the court as well as transition drop offs. An impressive shooter as well, Irby spaced the floor for Lutheran East off the catch. One of the top 2029 prospects, it was nice to see Irby shine in such a big game.
