2028 Prospect Update: MD/DC Top 20 Wings

The 6-foot-5 southpaw wing was set to suit up for the Mt. Zion Prep HS team coached by Lafayette Dublin, but Dublin had accepted a coaching position with Texas Southern University a couple weeks back and now the prep team has taken on some of the HS team's elite prospects. Matthews quickly becomes a focal point for Rod Harrison's group and will bring athletic prowess to both ends of the floor. He's a rim abuser, rebounding presence and continues to show strides with his jumper off the catch, which will ultimately be the swing skill for him climbing up into the top five of these rankings as well as how he'll project towards the HM level. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>2. With tremendous positional size on the wing around 6'7"-6'8" and intriguing fluidity within his movements, it's hard not to project him as one of the more higher upside prospects in the local class overall. Gonzaga is expected to be one of the more interesting teams in the DMV as they boast a ton of young, but experienced talent throughout their roster. Enough that could help them be true contenders in the league. Shime will be a big piece to that puzzle and as he gets into basketball shape by the end of December or so, the potential that he showed throughout the summer should turn into true production as a junior.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>3. Woodard is one of the guys that will likely be expected to be an off-ball guard at the next level but for now, his combination of size, toughness and length allow him to spend a lot of time guarding bigger wings effectively. He's a pest all around defensively, but earns his stripes with anticipation in the passing lanes as well as battling amongst the trees for rebounds before he puts his head down to sprint the lanes. Woodard's timing on lobs has become better with time and while the jumper is still a work in progress, he remains a low maintenance offensive weapon with excellent instincts as a cutter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>7. The newest face is Clark, an established 6-foot-5 skilled wing who spent the past two seasons putting up impressive numbers at KIPP DC Legacy and will now be tested in the WCAC. Clark has grab-and-go ability where he can lead the break and make nice reads as he pushes the tempo, but also puts pressure on the defense as a scorer who can get downhill, initiate contact and finish with strength. He reminds me of one of those guys at the playground who plays with a type of unusual pace, surprising physicality and can even get up above the rim on occasion that makes him into a tough matchup. He brings a sense of grit and grind that should shine brightly with Battle at the helm. I'm a firm believer that he'll further develop Clark's skillset over the next two seasons and make him a legitimate college prospect.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>10. He could quickly climb this list if he's able to string together a productive junior campaign with efficiency from the outside and showing his worth on the defensive end. Maret has a few pieces and although they're young overall, it should mean for ample opportunity for all. For Ogolla in particular, he can emerge as the go-to option and as he showed this summer at the EBA Pre-Live Warmup, has good chemistry with his point guard [player_tooltip player_id='3675571' first='Cam' last='Hall'] in drive-and-kick scenarios. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>18.
