All the players in this article are great players, none would list this as their number one goal, and all are unselfish. The hardest part was leaving off a bunch more players who I wanted to list, the easiest part was listing the ones I did. Here are some of the best bucket getters in the state of Washington:

He scored 58 in a game at the Battle of the Border last weekend. He is also the only one on the list that I know for a fact has already done it in a regular season game. That, his 58 points, and seeing him play in person, make him my early favorite to reach 40 once again next season. Not to mention, he will have a bigger role, and be counted on to get his team lots of buckets. A good chunk of last year’s points graduated, and he is the clear leader of the pack, making him a reasonable pick to repeat something that is very rare in high school basketball. You could watch him get 40 and not even think he took enough shots to get there. He’s that good and that efficient. One of the best shooters in the state, something I saw immediately when watching him. Whether he made them or not. Most he did.

I think he’s the best player in Washington regardless of class, and he is capable of taking over games and scoring from all levels. He’s got such a great feel for the game and attacks the basket under control with a strength that allows him to finish as good as any player in the state. His shooting is very good also, something I think he has improved on and will continue to improve on.(Update, His shooting is not just very good. It’s great, with the potential to be elite! Upon reviewing more film.) He has the look of a great-(elite) shooter, and he’s already an elite level scorer. He will take over parts of games, and if he gets hot he can drop 40. My guess is that if he does, probably 10 to 15 of those will come from the free throw line, as he will make a living there with his strong drives to the hoop. Best player=chance of getting 40. Downside. If you want to call it that. He plays on a great team that won’t need 40 from one guy. But it could still happen.

If I had to put money on it, he’d be the guy I would choose 2nd behind Holden to get there. He’s a great shooter and not afraid to let it fly. He made 8 threes and scored 33 in a district game last season. He’s athletic and will get easy buckets on the break, but it will be his ability to shoot it that might see him get to the 40 mark. He’s not the only guy on his team that can score but he will be the one doing most of it on most nights. I’d probably bet the house that he will come very close if he doesn’t indeed drop 40.

He is a scoring machine for Toutle and has already dropped 30 plus on multiple occasions. He has the ball in his hands most of the time and his team needs him to score night in and night out. He is a great shooter from deep, a must have in most cases if you get close to that 40 mark. I would bet he gets red hot and approaches it more than once next year. Toutle is a good team but he has to score, and score a lot for them to win in most close ones. He’d be a close 2nd if I were a betting man right behind Jay.
Kelson Gebbers-6’6-G-Brewster
This kid is ultra talented and has been the go to scorer for a good Brewster team for a few years now. He is 6’6, and plays a hybrid guard role that makes him dangerous from all over the floor. He shoots a lot of threes and he shoots it well enough to get hot, and combine that with his size in 2B, he is a tough guard for any opponent. He’s unselfish, which might make him less likely to hit the 40 mark. He’s also unstoppable when he has it all going, and gets both easy buckets with his size inside and hits tough shots with the defense in his face. Brewster will be a favorite in the 2B ranks next year with other scoring options but it is his Senior year and he’s going to do what he needs to do to win. That might put him around the 40 mark in a close game.

I like my pick here. Lights out shooter, scorer mentality, has a knack for scoring period. A lot of things need to happen for a kid to even come close, and I think he will be in the situation where those things are all lined up more than last season. He’s the obvious go to guy, and got 19PPG last season on a 2nd place team at the 2A state tournament. He’s set up to carry a bigger load this season and that puts him in a good place to get hot and keep firing. Some kids might slow down after 30 or so, it will be the ones who don’t that are the most dangerous and that takes a different kind of mindset. From what I have seen, he is okay with adding 10 more when he reaches 30 as he should be if the situation calls for it.
Trevor Hennig Trevor Hennig 6'4" | SG Mt Si | 2024 State WA and Blake Forrest Blake Forrest 6'0" | PG Mt Si | 2024 State WA -2024-Mount Si are two that I really want to put on the list. The only problem is that they are on the same team and they by far not the only two who can score it for Mount Si. Either one has the capability of getting hot and coming close but the team they are on will be the reason it might not reach 40. They are too good as a team with too many weapons but take a few guys off that team and here’s two who I can’t help but think of when creating this list. Both are lights out shooters and both can score in bunches. I’m listing them because they are exactly the type of player that could do it, but playing for Mount Si next year doesn’t exactly align with the whole picture of one guy getting that many points. Listed as examples of the type of player I am thinking about when talking about getting 40.

Here’s a kid that I would say might be the favorite as far as not slowing down at 30. He just seems to have that mindset to where if he gets you down, he’s not letting you up. He did his thing last season in the Metro league averaging around 18PPPG and that tells you that he has the ability to score. Especially when you see his style of play. He is relentless, always attacking, and plays with a chip on his shoulder. He can score from every level. Those things align well when talking about putting up monster scoring nights. He won’t slow down and that’s why he is on the list.

One of the best shooters in the state hands down. I’ve watched him enough to know that he has the potential to get hot and drop 10 threes. He’s also not just a shooter, and he’s also the alfa scorer for Tumwater and has been for a couple of years now. He’s gonna break the 30 mark more than once, and he just might have 10 more coming, as he is one of the best shooters that I have watched the entire off season. He might be the best, and that along with being and knowing he is the go to guy on his team , will put him close, whether he gets to 40 or not.
