He earned his 2nd league MVP this season. He was the most valuable player in the Evergreen 2A last season as well. He has improved his overall game each year, resulting in him being one of the most complete guards in the state. He can shoot it with the best of them. His mid-range jumper has become a weapon, not just a skill. He plays tough defense and is a high energy player with poise to go with it. He does what his team needs to win. He broke the Tumwater school record for career threes made during the season. He also shoots it at a high percentage. He is a winner.

He leads the team at 18 points a game but is capable of bigger nights at any time. One of the most complete guards in 2A who can score from all levels. He is an elite shooter, and has the mid-range game that he has put to work this season. He is getting his points from both, and has added some dunks to the mix showing his athletic ability. He sees the best the defense has to offer nightly, he knows it and he knows he has capable teammates to help him out. He is unselfish and will do whatever he can to help win games. He can take over or get his teammates going.

He is the heart and soul for a Tumwater team that I believe has a chance to win a championship this year despite some tough losses over the holiday break. Those losses all came to 3A or 4A schools, including a tough one point loss to Camas. He had 37 points in that game, proving that he will rise when the competition gets tough. He was labeled “winner” of the tournament despite those losses. That’s because he is a competitor who gives you everything on a nightly basis. The 6’2 guard is also a tireless worker and it shows on the court with both his game and his physicality. Through 9 games he is 27-66 from three (41%). He is averaging over 18 points a game but I would expect that to go up after a couple of tough outings and missed a game due to sicknesses. He set the school record for career three pointers made in game one this year vs Kelso. He is up to 137 made threes career (39%). He is also less than 100 points away from one thousand career points. He will be ready when the lights are shining the brightest to show why he is not only one of the best shooting guards in the state, but also the things he brings in order to be that winner he is.

It’s not a surprise to see Brewer shooting well, and it’s not a surprise to see him bring energy across the board. So, as I watched at the Invite, I keyed in on smaller details like how he responds to mistakes. Even in the midst of committing a turnover, or taking an errant shot, Brewer stays focused and quickly moves on to how he can make the next play. He remains hyper tuned in to the game and his high IQ shows through specifically as he makes mistakes, with his ability to recover and turn the tides back in his favor.

He opened his senior season by breaking the school record for career threes and scoring 34 points in an impressive win over 3A Kelso. As one of the best shooting guards in 2A, he will be a consistent source of scoring for Tumwater this season after avenging 19 a game last season. I watched the Kelso game and after a little bit of a slow start he got it going hitting several threes in the third quarter when Tumwater pulled away and stretched their lead. He didn’t force the issue and let the game come to him. He does so many other things for this team, and is the catalyst on both ends of the floor. Tumwater looked impressive in this one and showed that they have the depth to be one of the top teams in 2A this season.

He and Gerrits started the first 10 matched up together. Brewer picked Gerrits clean early in the game at half court. Something you don’t see often. He stated the game getting fouled on a three and surprisingly missed two of the three free throws. I think he was getting those out of his system early. He showed that he can and will be a facilitator this season with attention surely focused on him most nights. He finds his people at the right time and place. He’s tough and doesn’t back down. He hit a tough three also with a hand in his face. He didn’t have many open looks but he adjusted, being more of a floor general and getting to the line a bit. His ability to be an all around guard who sets up his teammates will be big this year for a Tumwater team that has other weapons. He’ll be just fine in the scoring column as well.

Brewer is one of the top guards in the 2A division, scoring at will and playing high-effort basketball. He led Tumwater to a fourth-place finish at last year’s State Tournament but with a solid core returning, surely has his eyes on the ultimate prize. He is a prolific shooter from distance and an underrated athlete when taking the ball to the rim. He led the Thunderbirds in scoring, assists, steals, and was third in rebounding last season. Brewer has what it takes to lead Tumwater on a deep run in the 2A playoffs.

There’s no question that this is his team this year. He’ll be the leader, and the one that Tumwater will rely heavily on to not only score but also be one of the primary ball handlers. He was more of a three point shooting scorer last season, this year he has a more complete scoring package. He can score on all levels and is a stronger player than he was last season. That’s not to say that he won’t still be one of the best three point shooters in the state, because he will. As evidenced by his 40% on 73 makes last year. He plays hard on both ends and should up his stats across the board.

on the east and make it known that he is a scorer. He does more than shoot, and he has some of the best intangibles of any player in 2A. He’s a competitor, who has gotten noticeably bigger, faster, stronger, and better. He will improve the 18PPG from last year, and seeing 30 plus in the box score is not going to surprise me at all. Great leader, he will look to lead Tumwater to higher than the 4th place of a season ago.
