Minnesota Sophomore ID Camp: Max’s Top Performers

I was really impressed with his lateral quickness and effort to step out 30+ feet away from the rim and move his feet with smaller wings and guards. One of those defensive plays saw him pick the pocket of a guard, dribble the length of the floor, and step around a defender to finish with a soft reverse lay-up. He's an unselfish player who excels at creating good looks for those around him. He was constantly beating his initial defender to get into the lane before locating an open shooter as the defense rotated on him. If the defense was slow to adjust, Timmy was getting all the way to the rim for easy finishes. He can effortlessly glide to the rim for highlight reel finishes, and continues to show improvements in his perimeter game. Ben knocked down a couple of outside jumpers in the game I watched, something he wasn't doing when I saw him at the 15u level in April. He plays with an edge and brings a lot of energy to the floor. Royce has a very high arcing jumper that was connecting at a high level from three, and he was arguably the best pure scorer I saw during the 3v3 portion of camp. After a big growth spurt since his freshman year, he was also finishing above the rim with ease in the open floor. He showcased an improved perimeter skill-set throughout the day, able to break down smaller wings to create his own shots. He was at his best getting all the way to the rim where he could use his big 6'6 frame to finish over the top, but he also showed touch from mid-range. Really comfortable getting his feet set on the move to elevate for a pull-up jumper from around 12 feet. At around 6'2-6'3 he has a strong frame that makes him a mismatch nightmare as a guard/wing. He's simply too strong for most players his age to handle, but if you guard him with a forward he can simply beat them off the dribble. Tristan was playing bully ball in the paint coming up with finish after finish inside. Really liked his work rate defensively as he was competing on every possession on that end of the floor.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- /wp:acf/evaluation-block -->
