Explosive. It’s the quickest and simplest way to describe all the things that Ben did at the Showcase on Sunday. Exploded to the passing lanes, exploded to boards, exploded up the floor in transition, and exploded to the rim to finish strong.

Ben Kalimu Ben Kalimu 6'2" | SG/PG Minneapolis North | 2029 MN is a six-foot-two-inch 2029 Minneapolis North and Mpls Hustlers/ Howard Pulley Hoops guard. Kalimu showcased some serious bounce in transition that not a single guard in the 2029 class in Minnesota has yet. In Kalimu’s dunk in the game I filmed he seemed to rise and float in the air before hammering home the dunk. In the first half if he didn’t get hacked by a defender he’d had an incredible transition flush. Kalimu’s quickness in tight spaces, length on the perimeter, and overall athleticism make him a very interesting guard prospect to watch.

You won’t find many players more explosive than Ben in the 2029 class. He can effortlessly glide to the rim for highlight reel finishes, and continues to show improvements in his perimeter game. Ben knocked down a couple of outside jumpers in the game I watched, something he wasn’t doing when I saw him at the 15u level in April. Defensively he has a ton of potential as he can effortlessly slide his feet to cut off the ball, and has quick hands to come up with steals.

Ben Kalimu is all go. He is all gas, no breaks. He was relentless while attacking all weekend long. If he ever got a first step within the half court on his opponent, he made sure to make them pay by getting all the way for a finish or free throw attempts. He did have some other prospects with size advantages on his roster the last few days so he made the most of that as he stayed aggressive throughout. There is a lot to like out of Kalimu. He has a bright future if he sticks with it moving forward.

Had the most bounce of any 15u player I saw today. Put it on the deck and got to the cup at will at his discretion. Dials in with a quick first step burst and showcased significant hang time when finishing at the rim. More intriguing was his ability to see openings underneath once traffic condensed in the paint. Can score it from mid range and beyond arc as well. Defensively created havoc at times with ability to jump passing lanes and turn defense into efficient offense.

Ben looks like a prospect to keep an eye on in Minnesota’s 2029 class. The 6’1 guard can jump out of the gym as a freshman, and was flying to the hoop for acrobatic finishes throughout the game. All it takes is a small gap for him to attack, and he can cover so much ground in a single dribble. Had some finishes where he seemed to just hang in the air to score around defenders. Also stretched the floor with a couple threes. Defensively he was all over the floor pressuring the ball, and created a number of turnovers that led to easy buckets for his team.

Ben Kalimu quietly put together one of the most impressive efforts of the day, matching Malik’s impact despite not getting the same volume of touches. He embraced the glue‑guy role, doing all the winning things that don’t always show up in the box score. He made himself standout defending multiple spots, rebounding in traffic, sprinting the floor, and making himself available as a finisher.
