Marcus put on a scoring clinic, running with Southside Red Bears this weekend. He is an electric lead guard, who can score in bunches from anywhere on the floor. He was hitting on some very tough shots off the dribble from beyond the arc. He is so shifty and so quick, being able to attack downhill for some acrobatic finishes. Marshall was easily the best player on the floor in an opening night win.

Marcus can score the basketball better than the vast majority of players in the state of Minnesota. If you are a high school basketball fan in this state you know that: MCA, Minneapolis North or Real Phenom, the facts are very clear.
What we really needed to come here to tell you was that Marshall did two things that really caught my eye in the game with Gain Elite : 1) he had a high flying lob dunk finish that will forever stick in the mind. When you have been watching hoops for 40 years only some dunks stick in the head for good and this one surely will, just incredible bounce with a physical finish, and 2) the ball pressuring defense that I saw from Marshall in this game was even more eye opening than the dunk. Marcus was very disruptive in this role and the more he does it, the more colleges are going to be interested in that two way potential.
Marcus 19 points for Phenom on 7 of 13 shooting in the loss.

Once Marcus gets into a rhythm, there’s not much you can do to stop him. Marcus is simply too quick with the ball in his hands, and with range that extends to about 10 feet beyond the high school arc, good luck guarding him out on an island. Despite coming up just short, Marcus put in an impressive individual performance against D1 Minnesota Gold . Marcus was draining three after three, and then as defenders started stepping up on him, he showcased his blow by speed to get to the rim. His explosive athleticism allows him to hang in the air for difficult finishes over size. Marcus capped off the performance with a half-court shot at the buzzer.

There aren’t many players who can put points on the board as quickly as Marcus can. He has endless levels of confidence in his shot, and when he gets into a rhythm, you better watch out. Marcus caught fire in the second half against East Metro Bounce , dragging his Grassroots Sizzle team back into the game and giving them a chance in the final 30 seconds. He’s so quick creating space, able to step-back into a pull-up three, but can also hesitate and then blow by you to explode to the rim. Packs a ton of explosive athleticism into his 5’10-11 frame to make plays at the rim.

Marcus’ shot wasn’t falling on Friday night, but he was making up for it with his defensive effort. He’s so quick laterally, and when he sits deep in a stance can give opposing guards fits with his ball pressure. As the game progressed, Marcus was getting into attack mode and finding ways to get to the rim. He can catch you off guard with his bounce at the rim, and was just hanging in the air for acrobatic finishes in traffic. I caught him again on Sunday morning where he threw down an explosive dunk in transition, while also showcasing his deep shooting range.

Jr. has been a big reason why. I saw him last week when he scored 39 in a win over top-10 ranked Esko, and on Wednesday he poured in 26 to help lead North past Washburn in a key conference matchup. Marcus is lightning quick on the ball, and was getting to the rim for some acrobatic finishes throughout the game. Showcased his quick release and deep shooting range as well. Dangerous on-ball defender at times who can sit deep in a stance and really utilize his lateral quickness to put opposing guards under pressure. Not afraid to take and make a big shot down the stretch.

Despite missing a chunk of time in foul trouble in the second half, Marcus racked up 26 points in a win over Two Rivers. Right from the jump Marcus was lighting it up from deep, knocking down a pair of quick threes, showcasing range that extends to just about anywhere within the half-court. So quick getting his shot off, meaning he just needs a couple feet of space to shoot over a contesting defender. One of those players who’s nearly impossible to stop when he gets into a rhythm because of his ability to effortlessly create space and hit shots from anywhere. Quickness allows him to pressure the ball hard defensively, although at times he can get into foul trouble as he likes to take chances to go for steals and get out in the open floor.

Marcus was just about the only source of offense for North on Friday. He’s simply electric with the ball in his hands, and found a lot of success flying up the floor in transition, or freezing his defender with a shot-fake before blowing by off the dribble. At his size he’s fearless attacking the basket and going right at taller defenders, and he showed good body control to hang in the air and finish around size. Never one to be short on confidence, Marcus has deep shooting range and isn’t afraid to let it fly if you give him too much space. Finished with 37 points in the loss to Apple Valley.

The season opener between North and Hiawatha was pretty sloppy, but Marcus was still able to finish with a team high 20 points in a win. He drained three first half threes from well beyond the arc, including one from the logo in the center-circle that seemed to shock everyone in the gym. Marcus has some of the deepest shooting range in the state, with a quick release to match. In the second half his shot wasn’t falling, but I liked his aggressiveness to get to the rim and draw contact, resulting in a lot of free throw attempts.

Marcus is one of the most electric guards in the state. Able to pull up for deep threes with his quick release, or burst by his man off the dribble and get all the way to the rim. He’s an explosive athlete, and that helps him get up and finish against size at the rim. Dished out a couple of assists from the perimeter, seeing the floor well and zipping in passes to cutting teammates. Has the potential to be a really good on-ball defender as well, as he’s so quick laterally.
