Four schools that played in Division 1 a year ago move to Division 2 and have been among the 23 teams in Sectional 4 by the WIAA. Whitefish Bay -- You might find some people still shaking their heads over the way Whitefish Bay totally dominated Slinger in last year's WIAA Division 2 state-title game after losing twice to the Owls during the North Shore Conference season. Whitefish Bay figures to be another tough out in 2026-27 despite losing starters Marcus Webb and Matt Schoenfeldt to graduation. University of St. Thomas recruit [player_tooltip player_id='2140905' first='Colin' last='Julien'], a skilled, athletic and ever-improving 6-foot-5 wing, headlines the list of returning players for coach Ryan Fiet. Julien led the Blue Dukes in scoring (18.4 ppg) as a junior and finished second in rebounding (5.3 rpg). Senior shot-maker [player_tooltip player_id='2325607' first='Jack' last='Brodersen'] and skilled junior point guard [player_tooltip player_id='2466054' first='Mace' last='Miskel'] also return to the starting rotation from a team that wenet 24-6. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='3022920' first='Jack' last='Lodl'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3075524' first='Reid' last='Muderlak'] along with sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='3076661' first='Max' last='Nowak'] also figure to be key players for the Blue Dukes.

2. Wauwatosa East -- Rival Wauwatosa West, one of the elite teams in Sectional 3, has garnered most of the city headlines in recent seasons, particularly after winning the Division 2 state title in 2025. But Wauwatosa East is coming and coming fast in the city and in the Greater Metro Conference. Coach Tim Arndorfer begins his 20th season as the school with three returning starters to his backcourt in seniors [player_tooltip player_id='1900422' first='Donovan' last='Calloway'], [player_tooltip player_id='2140973' first='Parker' last='Mitchell'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2404032' first='Jack' last='Clark']. All had very good spring/summer showings for Wauwatosa East and their respective club teams and form a mentally tough and experienced trio that can matchup up with anybody on the Red Raiders' schedule. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2884244' first='Gibran' last='Spector'] is a long, athletic wing who can defend multiple positions and has emerged as one of the state's top prospects in the 2029 class. Size and rebounding are the biggest areas of concern for Arndorfer, but this club has plenty of strong guard play and experience and will defend at an extremely high level.

3. Racine Park -- Racine Park played in Division 1 last winter after finishing second in the Division 2 State Tournament in 2025. The Panthers are back in Division 2 for 2026-27 and welcome back three proven performers in seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2140997' first='Zare' last='Gwinn'], [player_tooltip player_id='2398441' first='Cole' last='Betker'] and Donnel Williams. All three were starters on a club that finished 12-13 with both Gwinn and Betker also playing key roles on Racine Park's 2024-25 squad that lost in overtime to Wauwatosa West in the state-title contest. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='3191883' first='Francisco' last='Matsen'], [player_tooltip player_id='3021877' first='Daniel' last='Deleon'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3191818' first='Quinn' last='Bray'] along with sophomores Joel Freeman and [player_tooltip player_id='3538549' first='Emory' last='Beavers'] also figure to be key contributors for coach Casey Robbins.

4. Pius XI Catholic -- The Popes have an interesting mix of size, experience, skill and depth. Those assets should help coach Dan Carey's squad as they navigate the bouncy waters of the difficult Woodland West Conference, and they also could be big factors in a playoff run for Pius XI Catholic. Senior [player_tooltip player_id='2552505' first='Justin' last='Jones'] led the team in scoring at 11.1 ppg last season and headlines the list of returning starters that also includes senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2140982' first='Torrence' last='Rivera'] and junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='2976449' first='Aiah' last='Baldwin']. Rivera has good size for a guard at 6-foot-3 while Baldwin, at 6-foot-5, can play inside and outside and is one of the better rebounders in the Woodland West. Senior Massio Ruz played on the JV1 squad as a junior due to WIAA transfer rules, but the former DME Prep School guard is poised to have a big season for the Popes. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2837953' first='Robert' last='Springfield'], [player_tooltip player_id='2140976' first='Preston' last='Kirchoff'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3606012' first='Drevaun' last='Veal'] along with improved junior big man Franky Simo Kamden (6-7) bring quality depth to the lineup.

5. Burlington -- A strong junior class that includes returning varsity performers [player_tooltip player_id='2618915' first='Vincent' last='Kendall'], Joshua Tomczk, [player_tooltip player_id='2304321' first='Emmett' last='Munson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2442266' first='EJ' last='Horvath'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2618911' first='Nate' last='Burkhart'], among others, figures to help the Demons contend for the title in the Southern Lakes Conference. Junior [player_tooltip player_id='2459339' first='Djordje' last='Ninkovic'] is another player from the 2028 class who could positively impact coach Kyle Scott's squad. The versatility, physical strength and mental toughness of all of the returning players at Burlington will combine to make the Demons one of the better teams in Sectional 3.

Sleeper Team

Martin Luther -- Coming out of the tough Metro Classic Conference, Martin Luther will rely heavily on its backcourt and returning all-league performers [player_tooltip player_id='2431222' first='Noah' last='Tyler'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2381443' first='Keneson' last='Wiggins']. Tyler put up some impressive numbers as a junior on the way to receiving second-team all-league honors as he averaged 14.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.9 steals for coach Demonte Bynum's club, which finished 13-12. Wiggins contributed 7.8 ppg and 4.1 rpg and teams with Tyler in the Spartans' experienced, quick and aggressive backcourt. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2140939' first='Jordan' last='Blockton'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2408737' first='Jamerion' last='Coleman'], along with sophomore Semaj Pruitt, also loom as important pieces for Martin Luther as it sets out to finish near the top in the Metro Classic.
