Charlie Hughes Showcase – Ramsey’s Friday Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The 21st annual IHSAA/IBCA Charlie Hughes Memorial Showcase tipped off on Friday. There are 210 teams competing across over 350 games between Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. and Sunday evening at 5:00 p.m. Prep Hoops Indiana will have boots on the ground coverage the entire way from the opening tip until the final buzzer. However, we simply had not had the chance to see the 6'5" guard from Elkhart High School yet. That changed on Friday and he immediately lived up to the hype. He looked like a potential Top 5 player in the class. Anderson-Mitchell shoots it well from beyond the arc, can create his own shot off of the dribble, and maybe was most impressive as a passer. He has some next-level vision that you simply can't teach. The summer of [player_tooltip player_id='2878216' first='Bradley' last='Basila'] keeps on beating on with each viewing. The 6'7" rising junior forward from Chesterton High School played in front of a handful of high-major coaches at the Charlie Hughes Showcase and certainly showed them that he is capable of playing at that level. He showcased his interior strength as a finisher, his athleticism off of the bounce as a driver, and his perimeter skill set as a shooter. Additionally, he is one of the most athletic and versatile defenders in the state. Scecina Memorial turned in an incredibly impressive performance led by this 6'6" defensive game-wrecker. Foster was simply taking the ball from people and going to dunk it on the other end. He absolutely has solidified himself as one of the state's best, most versatile defenders. Foster also led all scorers with 22 points in the game. The 6'3" rising senior guard for Guerin Catholic was consistently able to beat his man off of the dribble, get downhill, and the explode to finish up around the rim and/or draw a foul. You can't teach his ability to attack the basket. Grissom is a lot of fun to watch and such a consistent, proven producer against high-level competition. However, he absolutely dominated the stretch that we did see. The 6'7" left-handed forward knocked in three three-point shots in as many possessions capping off the incredible individual run with a tough one trailing the play in transition. The super athletic 6'2" guard started to put his head down and win isolation matchups off of the dribble and then explode to finish up around the rim. The 6'1" rising senior guard is an elite shooter from beyond the arc, but also flashed some mid-range scoring ability. He also routinely is asked to take on a tough defensive assignment. Sigmund is very underrated as an on-ball defender. He is a relentless attacker off of the dribble and does so with both explosiveness and strength. Not only can he blow by you off of the dribble, but then he can finish right through you at the rim. Stoudemire is also an outstanding defender and arguably the best rebounding guard in the state of Indiana. They play as hard collectively as any team that we have seen all month long. Tonagel serves as the head of the snake and was outstanding scoring 26 points against the defending Class 4A State Champions Mt. Vernon (Fortville) on Friday night. However, we would be remise to not including him in this top performs write-up. The stock-rising 6'7" rising senior forward from Homestead High School poured in 37 points against Crown Point and backed it up with 29 points against Guerin Catholic at the Charlie Hughes Showcase. If the event were to hand out a Most Valuable Player award for Friday's action it would very likely be going to Welker.
