2026 Summer Madness: 2027 Notables

The seventh annual Summer Madness event tipped off over the weekend at Suitland High School where over 15 programs participated for what has become a great preview event for the month of June. It's always interesting to see who is where, but as we know, these rosters won't be finalized until school starts in September, which would make you a fool to assume that these will be the official rosters moving forward. Still, it's a chance to evaluate progress that these players have made over the last few months. Here's what I gathered from some 2027 names.   [player_tooltip player_id='2353558' first='Isaiah' last='Carpenter'] | 2027 | Clinton Grace   Carpenter took full advantage of the heavy lifting and poses as a rising senior who could gain the attention from college programs once the June scholastic live period dust settles. Standing 6-foot-6, he's a versatile option on both ends and played with a sense of urgency and aggression that his Clinton grace team will need in the winter to remain as a relevant contender in the DMV. He was the leading scorer for the Eagles this weekend with his best outing coming in the last game on Sunday as he went for 32 points while pulling in seven boards. His confidence and ability to operate off the bounce resulted in frequent visits to both the rim and the charity stripe.   [player_tooltip player_id='2935812' first='Noah' last='Cowan'] | 2027 | City   Like Carpenter above, Cowan will emerge as a primary option for his team this winter. It's always fun to watch the rising senior class step into prominent roles and flourish and for City, who has been a force in the Class 3A since head coach Omarr Smith took over, it looks like Cowan's number will be called quite often within the offense. He operated from the high-post effectively both as a scorer and passer. From the perimeter, he wasted no time in attacking in straight-line fashion, but playing off a jump stop before initiating contact and finishing on opposing bigs. He'll also have the green like as a grab-and-go guy where he made simple, but impactful hit-ahead passes that resulted in scores.   [player_tooltip player_id='2897147' first='Logan' last='Higginbotham'] | 2027 | Theodore Roosevelt   The addition of Higginbotham will be huge for the Roughriders as they look to follow up an impressive 2025-26 campaign. He's a quick-twitch lead guard with good command on the ball and refused to be stopped when it came to slithering his way into the paint. On his way there, he processed the rotations of the weakside defenders with precision and when he wasn't finishing with craft among the trees, he was delivering no-look dimes off the live dribble.   [player_tooltip player_id='2623334' first='Lane' last='Mahan'] | 2027 | Jackson-Reed   Mahan put on a show during Saturday's slate with his precision from outside. He's always been tagged as a knockdown three-point shooter off the catch, but what impressed me most with the 6'5" wing was his results off movement and even off the dribble. He'll be expected to be a major part of the offense for new head coach Tre Mouton and he spent the weekend showing he is prepared for the responsibility. June could be a big month for Mahan if he maintains this level of play as I'd expect LM-MM programs to monitor him as a result.   [player_tooltip player_id='2454534' first='Terence' last='Jones III'] | 2027 | St. Frances   The usual bucket-getting outing from Jones as he continues to prove himself as one of the top dynamic scoring guards in the DMV. The 6'0" southpaw lead guard can create space for himself at any point and has his defender at his mercy thanks to the unlimited range on his pull-up three. His quick-twitch ability blossoms attacking closeouts or operating in ball screens where he can maneuver in the smallest driving lanes for tough-angled finishes around the rim or last second dumps to teammates along the baseline. Jones also showed off the improved athleticism with a couple of dunks.   [player_tooltip player_id='2353541' first='Bam' last='Bolding'] | 2027 | Archbishop Carroll   With Anthony Brown gone to Vanderbilt, Carroll is in need of the next guard who can handle tempo, pose as a consistent offensive threat and make those that he shares the floor with better as a result of his playmaking ability. Bolding seems to be the ideal guy to step into that role and while he has shown ability to do all three of those needs, he's still a work in progress. Nevertheless, you'd be hard pressed to find a guard in the area that brings a more competitive intensity to both ends. While he continues to polish his skillset, his lead by example approach should radiate through the rest of the youthful roster and those intangibles will be key to winning games in the WCAC this winter.   [player_tooltip player_id='2353562' first='Ian' last='Condon'] | 2027 | Sidwell Friends   Plenty of documentation having to do with Condon since his spring surge, but had to include him here as well as he was nothing short of dominant on Saturday. Despite his team coming up short against St. Frances, Condon was a walking mismatch and showed the steady improvement of his three-level scoring ability, with more examples of doing so off the bounce in comparison to doing more damage off the catch in EYBL play. There aren't many forwards in the area who will be able to match his combination of strength, versatility and IQ, which are all reasons for his rise within high major programs' recruiting boards   [player_tooltip player_id='2353555' first='Malachi' last='Terrell'] | 2027 | Riverdale Baptist   New head coach James Parker looks to shake things up at Riverdale with a revamped roster in comparison to last year's team. Terrell could be one of those pieces that catches eyes this month during the live weekends and also has a big year in the MPSC. A dynamic, on-ball presence with tremendous craft as a playmaker and scorer, he was tough to keep contained and remained efficient in his approach throughout the weekend. Terrell is a major threat in transition and he adds to his worth with the ability to do so on or off the ball. He can put pressure on the defense with his end-to-end speed, but when someone else is leading the break, Terrell can flare out to the wings and spot up.   [player_tooltip player_id='2639998' first='Brandon' last='Brooks'] | 2027 | Flowers   Brooks is another prospect that we've written about quite a bit since the start of spring, but his big junior season warranted such praise. He shows no signs of slowing down and has the neon green light for this Flowers team as the offensive engine as they'll look to avenge their Class 4A Final Four loss that concluded their 24-1 season in 2025-26. Brooks posted 15 or more points in every game this weekend while recording a double-double or being just short by a couple of rebounds in the process. Like Condon, there aren't going to be many forwards to match what Brooks can bring from a size and skillset perspective when scanning the public school landscape.   [player_tooltip player_id='2889358' first='Prince' last='Travis Suggs'] | 2027 | Lackey   The reigning Class 2A champs were back on the floor and didn't disappoint. Suggs in particular looks to be the obvious option as the go-to guy as Malik Gordon heads to St. Mary's College of Maryland to start his collegiate career. He's a two-way, 6'4" guard/wing whose effort and intensity will set the bar for potentially repeating as champions in 2026-27. He has the skillset, aggression and length to impact the game a way that your primary option needs to and it showed with his 30-point performance in a win Douglass on Saturday.
